How is this Scripture search set up, and what does “[Expand]” do for your search?
When I do scripture searching here at Colorado Christian University, I will go to the Alta Religious Database, click on scripture in the top menu bar, and there is where I will start my search.
I observed while doing an overview to see what things look like, and I noticed that the scripture search is set by each book of the Bible and in the same order as the stories in the Bible. When you click “Expand,” it brings up each chapter in your research book. If you click “Expand” again, it will bring up each verse from that chapter. For example, if you search the book of Psalms in the scripture database and click “Expand,” it will pull up chapters one through
one hundred fifty in Psalms. Then by clicking “Expand” on a verse, you will get several articles written about that verse in Psalms twenty-five verse five. Clicking the “[Expand]” gives you more options.
Regarding how to find commentaries here at Colorado Christian University, I will need to go to Colorado Christian University’s library page. It will take me to the Colorado Christian University Clifton Fowler Library home page, click on the yellow icon “Guides,” and then click on
Biblical Studies & Theology. It will expand, and you click on Biblical Studies & Theology again. Once you have done that, it will take you to the highlighted blue column; click on “Commentaries,” and it will expand; then click on “Commentaries by Viewpoint,” then click on that, and there you will see under “Commentaries by Viewpoint” the Name, Title and the University of the person that compiled the chart and below you will see the Viewpoint List. From there, you can choose which Commentary and Viewpoint, whether it be (Moderate, Liberal, or Conservative). From the assignment, my findings were that the person that compiled the chart was Professor Randy Nelson, Professor of NT Studies at Northwestern University in St. Paul and
updated by Colorado Christian University librarians. There are Twenty-Three conservative viewpoints.
