According to the book of Acts, "So for whole a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch" (NIV,2012, Acts11:26).

According to Luke, the church in Antioch is well established and proficient in spreading the Gospel message.

ANTIOCH The "circumcised saints" were angered by the salvation of the Gentiles. Peter said in Acts 11:18, "So then, even to the Gentiles, God has granted repentance that leads to life." (NIV,1973, Acts 11:18)
The Jews in the area showed Herod that they were pleased to see the death of James and the imprisonment of Peter.

In the book of Acts, one of the main Protagonists is Harod. He is responsible for killing James with a sword and imprisoning Peter because of spreading the Gospel.

The message of the spread of God's Word was not received well by the Romans in the area.

While well established, the church received great news when Peter successfully spread the Word of God and began baptizing the Gentiles.
ANTIOCH The thing that was ultimately at stake was the salvation of the people and their ability to accept what was being spoken to them through Peter.
Paul traveled from Antioch back to Jerusalem to explain that the good news was for all people.
