Exodus teaches us about God’s promise to deliver and be with His people with the story of Moses and
Pharaoh where God frees His holy nation from enslavement. Moses requests for Pharaoh, the king of
Egypt, to release the Israelites, but Pharoah refuses. As a result, God then sends ten plagues to punish
Pharoah, and on the last plague, Pharoah gives in and releases the Israelites. This story shows how God
uses His power to defeat evil and deliver salvation to His people with His presence. With God’s release of
the Israelites, they are given a request. “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my
covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine;
and you shall
be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people
of Israel” (
English Standard Version Bible
, 2016, Exodus 19:5-6). This promise from God and the
commandments given to His chosen people shape us to live a life that appeases the Lord and grow with
Him and His kingdom.
