The book of Joshua discusses the fulfillment of God’s original covenant with Abraham in which He
promises him, “I will always keep the promise I have made to you and your descendants, because I am
your God and their God. I will give you and them the land in which you are now a foreigner. I will give the
whole land of Canaan to your family forever, and I will be their God“ (
English Standard Version Bible
,
2016, Genesis 17:7-8). God fulfills that covenant with the scripture in Joshua, “Thus the Lord gave to
Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled
there” (
English Standard Version Bible
, 2016, Joshua 21:43). This scripture alone teaches us to trust God
and rely on Him as He will always keep His covenants. If we rely on Him, He will always do what He
promises, so we must be obedient to receive His blessings.
