PSY 211 Module Two Milestone Template Review the article on the six dimensions of wellness. Then answer each question with a minimum of 3 to 5 sentences. Support your answers with credible sources when appropriate. Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. Choose one of the wellness dimensions and explain whether you feel it is guided more by nature or nurture. Explain your response. [Our physical wellness is guided more by nurture rather than nature. Yes, we are born with the instinct to eat and drink to nourish our bodies, but actual physical wellness is something that we learn from our parents, peers and even television. We do not automatically know how to or whether we should eat healthily or exercise to keep our bodies healthy. This is why our physical wellness is fueled more by nurture rather than nature.] Explain how one dimension of wellness influences cognitive well-being during a specific stage of development. [Our emotional wellness and intellectual well-being are what influences our cognitive well-being, it starts at an early age and is built upon as we mature. According to an article by Luhmann, (2021), “ Cognitive well-being refers to how people evaluate their life overall (i.e., life satisfaction) or specific life domains (e.g., job satisfaction)”. (Luhmann 2021) This is how we build on our emotional wellness and intellectual well-being. We evaluate our lives regularly and adjust the things we do not feel satisfactory to be sure that we are living our best life.] Identify the wellness dimension that you feel most in control of. Explain your response. [I feel like I have the most control over my social well-being. I have a great support group in my life, it has taken me a few years to pick and weed through the people I allow to be a part of my circle. During my recovery I have been able to tell who was there to show positive support and who was not. The ones that have made it through are the strongest and show me that they care and are here for me during the good and tough times. I feel incredibly lucky to have each one of them in my life.] Identify the wellness dimension that you feel least in control of. Explain your response. [II feel like I am least in control of my occupational wellness. I have slacked off over the last few years and could not be bothered to care much about which direction my life was going. I am now on a better path and learning to take back control over my life. This is why I feel like my occupational wellness is the one area of my life that I have the least control of at this point in my life.] Choose one dimension that you believe to be predominant in development. Explain your response. [I believe that the most predominant would be your emotional wellness. If you are not emotionally sound, you cannot say that you are living your best life. By this I mean if you are not emotionally sound your physical well-being will suffer, as will your emotional well-being. Your emotional and physical health are intertwined if you are not physically sound you will not be emotionally sound and vice versa, If you are not emotionally sound you could become depressed, and that could lead to being less physically active causing the two to be detrimental 1
to your well-being. This is why your physical and emotional well-being are the predominant in development.] Explain how emotional intelligence and resilience factors affect your well-being. o Consider how you can apply the dimensions of wellness to support your own well-being in your response. [Your emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and control your own emotions. Having this ability is what is going to help you strive to live a happy healthy life. Your physical wellness and emotional wellbeing are the most related to your emotional intelligence by being the two that keep you the most in-tuned to your own emotions and able to self-regulate and understand your emotions. Your intellectual well-being is where you will learn to build a resilience to the things that can bring you down in life, meaning if you are intellectually sound you are aware of your own happiness and can stay in the lane you prefer to keep you happy. Your social well-being is also a key factor in living a happier, healthier life. We all need good people in our life to build us up and in turn build them up. These dimensions all together will support your own well-being by combining self-regulation, self-confidence, and emotional stability, leading you to feel like you are in control of your own happiness.] References 2
