PSY 108 Module Three Activity Template In the Module Three Activity Guidelines and Rubric, review the Prompt and Supporting Materials sections. Then answer the following questions. Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. 1. Is your goal to work in a helping profession or do you work in a helping profession now? Describe why your goal profession or current profession is meaningful to you. Your response should be a minimum of 1 to 3 sentences. I believe my career as police officer is a helping profession, which I have done for eighteen years and is very meaningful to me. As a police officer, we help our community not only with enforcing laws, but ensuring their safety and protecting them from others who may wish them harm. When police officers interact and communicate with victims, we understand that this may be their most vulnerable and traumatic moments in their lives, and we are there to help them through the process. 2. One of your programmatic course themes is self-care. Which of the strategies for self-care from the article Recognizing Compassion Fatigue in the Helping Professions are most relevant to you now as a student or working professional? Your response should be a minimum of 1 to 3 sentences. The strategy for self-care that is most relevant to me is “Exercise, meditate, or find external pursuits that make you feel good.” As police officers we tend to be at the best shape of our lives during the police academy, then as we grow in our careers, we forget about taking care of ourselves. I cannot explain what a big issue this is in law enforcement, we work in a career where stress, physical fatigue, heart attacks, and emotional trauma are way to common and this strategy for self-care can make a big difference in our emotional wellbeing, health, and happiness. 3. One of your programmatic course themes is emotional intelligence. How do you currently apply emotional intelligence skills as a student or working professional? How can it be useful for you to explore strategies for EI as this course (or the program, if you are a Psychology major) continues? Your response should be a minimum of 1 to 3 sentences. In my career, ethical judgment is one of the most important emotional intelligence skills you can have. This characteristic of an individual is imperative to ensure the officer will always do the right thing even when no one is watching. EI strategies can be very useful in my career due to some of these strategies being very useful to me early in my career, and some of them have I have not explored in a long time, this course will help me re-evaluate these strategies and how I can use them more effectively moving forward.
