Reflection Paper 1 In the Modules 1-3, I have learned a lot about the different types of trauma and what issues lie beneath. At first I was hesitant to read the articles scared of what I might get myself into by knowing facts about trauma. But after reading the articles I was able to gain a lot more information than what I had before reading them and doing more research. In week 1 Module, I learned about the basics of trauma and understanding about trauma. Trauma can be explained as a disturbing experience and can happen at any given place at any age. Some may experience trauma in a different way than those who have experienced the same trauma. If you think about it some trauma gets left untreated and can cause long term health effects such as heart disease, autoimmune system, mental health conditions and many more. Having supportive family and friends can help tremendously with those who have experienced trauma. In some cases trauma can be caused by uncertainty and they may not know where the trauma they were exposed had come from. Also trauma can be present without the most common symptoms that you may see such as insomnia and depression. Another symptom that can be caused by trauma is called hyperarousal and this is when the heart rate rises and gives you a hard time sleeping. After reading these articles I took away a lot of the information as it was very interesting to read.
In week 2 Module, I learned about childhood trauma and the effects it has on them health wise. I learned about the Adverse Childhood Experiences ( ACEs) and how they used this in a study to describe the long term effects of childhood trauma to the medical health problems. In these articles I took a lot of the information that I have read and did more research on it to grasp onto the information. In this weeks module I did have a hard time understanding the information in the articles as it was confusing to me. The ACE pyramid is the most popular studies to assess the association between childhood exposure to the traumatic events and the effects it has in later life. The effect that trauma can leave on children is that it can weaken their brains and have an impact on how they will react during certain events. The more ACEs the higher chances it is that children will get PTSD from the traumatic event that they were exposed to. The changes in children that occur while experiencing these events may lead to depression, bed wetting, suicide, etc. It is scary to think about this but it is true and we as in adults should step up and help these children as much as possible. In module 3, I learned about the different reactions that the children can experience and the coping strategies that can help. Knowing that the same trauma that each individual was exposed to will have different reactions than one another. There are two different survival mechanism such as preventative and protective. During survival mechanism, arousal is the first that is experienced as it means to be
awake and ready to interact in the world. After reading this it did not make any sense to me as I had to read on more and do more research to finally understand. There are many preventive mechanisms in which are orienting/ attentive immobility, social engagement, fawn, and freeze. When it comes to arousal different things happen when it comes down to how we perceive a sense of danger. After reading about this, it caught my eye because of how true this is. Everyone gets different reactions when it comes down to trauma and those signs can be seen which are sadness, agitation, confusion and physical arousal. In the Waking of the Tiger, they had given exercises that you can do to get a feel of dissociation. I am not going to lie I even went back and did the exercises to see how it felt and it felt real to me. In conclusion, I have had my fair share of being exposed to trauma as a child. Growing up it was very hard for me as I did not get the help or support from anyone as I never talked about it with anyone. Later in life I began to forgive my self for blaming the trauma on myself. Now after reading the modules articles I begin to realize that not all children who were exposed to the same thing can come out with the same reactions. Maybe that is true because my sisters and I have been through a lot and non of us have the same reactions. I want to be able to help children after reading this as much as I can because in my opinion no children should have to go through trauma and not get any help before it is too late.

Colaborative Grading 1.) The engagement level I would give myself is engagement. 2.) I believe that I would assess myself as engagement because I put diligent effort in writing this reflection. 3.) The point allocation I would give myself for the weekly ticket would be a 25 out of 25. 4.) I believe that I earned this grade because I worked really hard on this and I also went back and reread everything to make sure I knew what I was talking about . 5.) The areas of improvement for me would have to be to put more information in each paragraph. If possible I would love to get another attempt at this Reflection.
