What influences or impacts personality development? Perspective 1 Describe perspective and its associated assumptions. Include at least one supporting resource. According to the psychodynamic approach, which was developed by Sigmund Freud, early events and unconscious processes have a significant impact on how a person develops their personality. This theory holds those interactions between the id, ego, and superego — the three distinct parts of the psyche — form personality. The superego embodies moral ideals, the id stands for baser wants, and the ego acts as a mediator between the id and reality. Perspective 2 Describe perspective and its associated assumptions. Include at least one supporting resource. The behavioral approach, which has its roots in the research of John Watson and B.F. Skinner, emphasizes observable actions and how people learn them via contact with their surroundings. This theory holds that learned behaviors obtained through observational learning, classical conditioning, and operant conditioning processes produce personality. Perspective 3 Describe perspective and its associated assumptions. Include at least one supporting resource. The Sociocultural perspective emphasizes the impact of social and cultural factors on personality development. It argues that personality is not only shaped by individual experiences but also by the broader social context, including cultural norms, values, and expectations.
