Gerardo Aguilar Rangel Professional: Mr. Joseph Pantoja September 10, 2020 Assignment: Chapter 19 Crisis to Empire - Part 1 Omaha Platform Chapter 19 Crisis to Empire - Part 1 Omaha Platform The Populist demands reasonable and rational the responses to the problems facing, I think so the demand they made is so that they can they have a stable salary all they demanded a better or installed a national currency that is more suited and flexible; another thing that demanded that would allow the farmers to have a safe deposit. However, some the demanded seem little to high an example is how farmers want all the State/ national revenues shall be limited to the necessary expenses needed for the government and graduated income tax for farmers and those demanded are unreasonable for the fact that farmer controls the local government. The elements of socialism can be found in the Populist program is how they demanded of control their government’s resources and they demand equality an example is how they demand should not be monopolized for speculative purposes and prohibited. Another example of socialism ideal in the populist party is how in the thought of promoting fairness and equality among the people of the society especially they were felt left behind increasingly industrial corporate society.
The Grange, the Farmers’ Alliances, and the Populists have all in common is that they want a better lifestyle and better wage for the farmer however, that ended of similar of all three. Another similarity is that they had political ties; and all three had economic interest/movement in their own sort of way. However, I would say that all similar they had ended the Grange was founded in 1867 while the Farmers’ Alliance was founded in 1892, and the Populist Party was established in 1891. Another contrast is that they all have different objectives; the Grange objective was anti-middleman, cooperative movement to improve wages for farmers. The Farmers’ Alliance objectives were to end the adverse effects of the crop-lien system on the farmer and supported the government so the regulation of many aspects like transportation and income tax. The Populist Party objective is overall equality for farmers, a working day of eight hours and government to have control of all railroads, telegraphs, telephones direct election of senators, and civil service reform. I do agree with the recent historians who believe that Populism was a reasonable realistic response to agrarian grievances because they were neglect most of the time and were a fight for justice for farmers however, their view in my own opinion seem like commits have the government control many markets. However, I do not believe it was realistic due they are demanded were too high and their ideals would lead more corruption in the power of the party/government , however, that is my own personal option about this topic.
