Report
The US was known to go into new countries and wipe out laws they had in place taking over and rewrite them is how the US controlled and influence Cuba back in the 1800s to 1950s. The US had eye on Cube often and had their military intervene because of the violence and the instability of economic/political problems Cuba could not stay away from. The US attempted to help them stay away from Spanish rule. As Cuban were not okay with the laws and Castros order they seek exile and came to the US as they thought to be welcomed. As American seen the takeover in Miami changed a lot, they did not like it and treated Cubans bad with racism and discrimination and some felt betrayed. American would threat and arrest undocumented Cubans and separate families traumatically throwing people in refugees and mistreated. Cuban looked at the American people different. The US controlled and influenced Puerto Rico in the 1800s to 1950s gaining control of Puerto Rico through the Treaty of Paris. Puerto Rico does have a certain amount of local autonomy, but the US is in ultimate control. The relationship between US and Puerto Rico was not good at first Puerto Ricans felt they were not treated fair especially when the US gave them job on their soil and mistreated them paying them close to nothing to do hard labor, over worked and then watched them starve along with their families. Some had to give their babies to neighbor’s wealthy enough to feed and supply for them since they could not. Puerto Rican did not think it was ok them being US citizens but not able to receive benefit rights and responsibilities like all other American citizens did was fair. Puerto Ricans were recruited to fight in the US army and still treated unfairly and discriminated compared to US citizens that were not Puerto Ricans.
