Opportunity is the principle. Equality is the goal. This document serves as a collection of the guiding ideas and philosophies to America’s fairest party. Our Party Planks: Economy : Opportunists believe in a free market economy that thrives off the innovations that our country is so gifted at creating. We believe that capitalism is a key philosophy in creating a prosperous nation and any other economic principle fails to create a nation that is long-lasting and independent. That being said, capitalism is flawed like any other political idea and limitations must be set in order to protect and empower the people of our country. We believe in the implementation of government programs that allow for the nation and individual to achieve substantial fiscal growth. However, social programs that cost the United States trillions of dollars while failing to create productivity must be cut back if we want our nation to grow economically. Education : The most obvious means of equalizing opportunity is through education. Despite our nation possessing some of the greatest learning institutions in the world, our public school system fails to provide the necessary skills for a modern American nor do schools provide services equally. As a result, our party stands firmly against the funding of schools through local property taxes. Education is one of the most important services provided by a government, and yet, children of poor communities are stagnated by an education system that is far worse than one provided in high-income neighborhoods.
Climate Change : The growing threat of climate change threatens the life of our Earth and every organism that inhabits it. While resource conservation and adoption of renewable energy can slow climate change, our pace can never match that of rising global temperatures and increasing destruction of our ecosystems. In order to make it through ecological disaster, the world must unite in an effort to create energy resources that actually rival fossil fuels. In an ironic sense, we must invest in a Manhattan project-esque effort to artificially and safely create the process of nuclear fusion, an energy that, if possible, would eliminate the need for any other source of energy. Even if this energy source is not possible, we must find a new energy source or greatly improve our current resources if we have any hope to actually combat climate change. War on Drugs : The War on Drugs was a massive failure and not only marginalized poor communities, but only made the drug epidemic worse. Our party believes that the best means of saving American lives and lowering drug-related offenses is by legalizing all gateway drugs, specifically marijuana. Marijuana, unlike most other federally illegal drugs, is not harmful to the individual nor does it create harmful interactions with other people. As for other illegal drugs, their decriminalization shouldn’t be too far behind. As American citizens, our government should not be placing restrictions on actions that are at our full discretion. While hard drugs are very harmful, most do not cause harm outside of the individuals using them and, thus, should not be charged with a criminal offense. Immigration : The foundation and growth of the United States was only possible thanks to immigration from all around the world, but many still support closed borders that fail to recognize the strength in diversity. Our party fully supports immigration, specifically from the southern border. The vast majority of these people enter our country with the hope of greater economic and social opportunities, a right that all people deserve. Therefore, we must provide a safe way to enter and naturalize into the United States without the risk of being separated from one’s family or dying in an effort to reach our nation. Nonetheless, setting an annual cap is not an unreasonable idea since the United States can only facilitate so many immigrants. Party Platform Before delving into the actual political beliefs and ideology of the Opportunity Party, it’s important to understand why it came to be and how it’s different from contemporary political thought. The Opportunity party was founded out of the failures of modern, U.S. politics. It emphasizes perspective, collaboration, and moderacy in a government that is failing to possess any of those attributes. While it does support many of the same ideas and principles as those of the major parties, it differentiates itself by understanding the limitations in a single ideology despite possessing one of it’s own. With that in mind, we can properly define an opportunist's ground principles and how they transfer into real-world ideas and policies. Our party believes in a system of government that is truly equal in it’s service to all individuals. From this administrative equality, we can achieve equal opportunity on the social level, allowing even those from an impoverished background to achieve any definition of success, whether it be
social, economic, or moral, so long as it does inhibit upon the rights and liberty of another individual. For this reason, our party ensures fair and equal social programs that work to promote individual growth for all those that choose to pursue it. For these reasons, our party supports a strong and fair education, a market-led economy, and low taxes whenever doing so is possible. The guiding principle of government equality also applies to social policy. Our party believes in an equal expansion of civil liberties and globalization. This philosophy is why we support the abolishment of the death penalty, legalization of marijuana, expansion of immigration, and increase in foreign aid and trade agreements. With a basic conception of the Opportunity Party now in place, it is clear who our voters will be. For any of those, who wish to rewrite the current system of politics into one in which you and all who inhabit our country will be faced with all the choice and opportunity you desire, without the restriction placed upon by institutions like the government, the Opportunity party is for you.
