Defending Beliefs For many people, the question of if there is a God is a big one. For some people, they have questions about why God allows bad things to happen to good people. For others, it is that they do not have enough evidence to support the existence that God is real. Whatever the reason might be there are a lot of unbelievers and they have valid questions for unbelieving. I will go over my reason for believing, why do bad things happen if God is good, and why should I trust the Bible. Believing is an interesting part of life. It can really be hard to believe in anything, let alone something we can not even see. One of the reasons I believe in God because I have seen him personally move through my life. Before I was a believer in Christ I was a complete mess. I was constantly depressed, I did not have the strength to get out of bed and keep going. I did not have the strength to get up and go to school and as a result of that, I almost failed from missing so much school. I isolated myself from all of my friends and was alone. I also was extremely was anxious, I suffered from really bad anxiety. As a result of that, it made me drop out of all the sports I liked to play. I stopped hanging out with the few people I liked to hang out with. I removed myself from my family and would just hide in my room. I was not in a good place. It wasn’t until I came to KCU that I found the love God has for me. I completely gave my life to Him last year and had Him move through me. I Learned how amazing God is and how my life was turned around. I am on the KCU soccer team, I am at the top of my grade. I am on the worship team and play bass for the school and importantly God. I found my joy and peace within God. He took my life and completely changed me around. He took me from complete ruins and redeemed me. He took the graves in my life and turned them into gardens. He took my dry dead
bones and revived me. If God could change me… why can He not change you? Why do bad things happen to good people or if God is good? This is a question many people struggle with. First off in order to have a basis of what is evil or what is bad we need to have a basis for what is good. For what is good is based on our own mortality. Morality can be subjective for each individual unless we all have a common basis for our morality. Once we get passed that we learned that God created us for free will. In order for us to have free will, evil is a possibility that could have happened. For example, if you were crushing on this girl and you had the opportunity to give her a chip and the chip made her absolutely love you. She would give you all her attention and love that you need. You can program her to do different things but at the end of the day, she does not actually love you. You are just controlling her and using her and she did not choose to love you or care for you in the way the chip is making her. It is the same way with God. why would He create someone who is just a robot and will always love Him no matter what? If He did that there would be no free will. We would be forced to love someone we did not love. At the end of the day, our love for God would not matter because we did not love Him for Him and we only loved Him because He forced us to. We as humans are also fallible we are going to make mistakes. We do not deserve to have a comfortable life. Why do we deserve to live without suffering? The answer is we do not deserve a life without suffering. We are unworthy of a comfortable life. We mess up and we are sinful in our own nature. People can hear everything they want to hear about God but without any evidence, it makes it hard for them to believe it. So this brings us to the question of why should I trust the Bible? One of the first pieces of evidence is that the Bible is written by multiple people over the years and years and there is not a single contradiction in the whole book. There are 63,779 cross references
in the Bible and these references span over the course of 1500 years. Another source of evidence is that with every other religion is there is only one writer who writes the book. With the Bible, there are multiple authors and they are all synoptic gospels. The gospels are four books of the Bible all written by different authors but they all say the same story, they also all lived in different places but have the same story told. Another fact is that we have dead sea scrolls which include all of the Old Testament besides the book of Esther! They give us knowledge and insight about facts we have known about the Bible before because they were not written in the Old Testament before. They were written 1,000 years before any other previous text written in Hebrew. When it comes to believing God it is not always easy. That is why we have to be faithful and trust God that He knows what He is doing. Questions will always remain and doubting is okay because if you don’t doubt you won’t change or grow. Looking deeper to find answers to questions is important. Some questions will always remain and it is, why do bad things happen if God is good, and why should I trust the Bible.
