Augustine’s theory of knowledgeacquisition is based upon reflective contemplation and divine illumination.Since Godis the cause of all things and also the cause of anyone knowing those things,He is the illuminator of all truth A similarity between Augustine’s theory of knowledge of acquisition that to of Plato’s is: 1. Augustine explains that Learners experience illumination through reflective contemplation which is the process of learning. While Plato also agreed that human beings retrieve thoughts from long term memory which is called reminiscence. Plato and Augustine both came to the determination that in the knowledge acquisition there are two realms: There is an upper and lower. Like our textbook shows on page 12, the upper story is the knowledge in the City of God, and the lower one is the knowledge in the City of man. Both Augustine and Plato agreed that the lower story is inferior because knowledge can be unreliable and fleeting.
