The procedures and actions that make up the profession of nursing continue to attract a lot of interest. Over the course of their careers, nurses apply the insights gained from nursing theories to their practice, striving always to provide the best possible care to their patients. One such theory that can be used in both the clinic and the lab is the human caring theory. The theory's strength is in the emphasis it places on communication and partnership between nurses and patients to provide optimal care (Evangelista et al., 2021). It is the purpose of this paper to dissect Jean Watson's idea of human compassion. Background Theorist’s Background Jean Watson developed an insightful and instructive hypothesis in 1979 called the human caring theory. As proponents of this theory see it, individuals, nature, the workforce, and the self are all interconnected and hence cannot be considered objects. The theorist has made and been awarded numerous leadership accomplishments and degrees from important and widely recognized institutions such as the American Academy of Nursing in 2013 (Rowsey, 2022). A key tenet of this theory is that all nursing actions must be taken with the end goal of bettering care for patients in mind. Phenomenon of Concern Focused in Jean Watson's human caring theory is the interaction between the patient and nurse. The theory demonstrates and emphasizes the centrality of the nurse-patient interaction in achieving high standards of care (Dean, 2022). Thus, Watson suggests that nurses employ the most effective ways for facilitating patient-nurse communication and ensuring that needs are being met are being met.
Theory Description Quality patient care is a cornerstone of the human caring theory, a broad idea that emerged in the late 1970s. According to this thinker, nurses' expressions of care and attention to patients are fundamental to the philosophy and science of caring. In addition, the theory places an emphasis on the interpersonal dynamics between scientific as well as the nursing practice understanding in the context of healthcare (Evangelista et al., 2021). Watson claims that the focus of nursing is on health restoration, patient care, disease prevention, and promotion. Concepts: Source (Wei & Watson, 2019) The human caring theory focuses on four fundamental themes: community/environment, health, individuals, and nursing. First, there is the idea that a person's behavior and the kinds of things they should want to accomplish are shaped by the norms and expectations of their social surroundings. However, according to Watson, humans are valuable beings who deserve help, understanding, nurturing, respect, and care, as someone who has optimal mental, emotional, and physical health (Wei & Watson, 2019). Finally, Jean Watson describes nursing as the "human science of human health, sickness, and person experiences mediated by ethical human care, personal, scientific, and professional exchanges." Diagram As seen in the graph below, the four components of the human caring theory are interconnected in ways that make up a whole.

The Human Caring Theory: Relationships Human caring theory's four core ideas are intrinsically linked to one another. Society, people, healthcare, and nursing are all part of the concept. For this reason, it is important to understand the relationship between one's social and environmental contexts and their overall health. According to Eavngelista et al. (2021), if a person is exposed to a lot of smokers, for instance, they may start to feel the symptoms of smoking themselves. However, nurses need to talk to their patients to learn about their priorities in terms of healthcare and what they hope to achieve from their visits to the clinic. Consequently, quality treatment is enhanced when nurses and patients develop favorable relationships. Evaluation Weaknesses The human caring theory has some limitations, including its inability to provide guidance or insight into how to achieve genuine caring-healing connections. According to Dyar (2022), nurse practitioners who are looking for specific instructions may come up short when relying
solely on the human caring paradigm. It has been argued by some scholars that the theorist's development places an emphasis on qualities that, while important, may not be to everyone's taste. Metaparadigms Jean Watson provides a comprehensive breakdown of the four prevailing paradigms. Watson provides an in-depth analysis of each metaparadigm, and how it contributes to the provision of excellent medical care (Dyar, 2022). In this way, the idea equips nurse practitioners to better serve their patients. Application Studies that Used the Theory By drawing on the human caring theory, Wei and Watson (2019) highlight, and address, the significance of the nurse-patient interaction. The study's author argues that nurses can better care for their patients if they regularly exchange information with their patients. The hypothesis is also used by Dean (2022), to suggest what should be incorporated into nursing school curricula to improve student outcomes. Comprehension, sympathy, conversation, and collaboration are all essential elements. Area of Practice If I were to go into this line of work, I would apply the human caring theory to better comprehend the significance of nurse-patient communication. Specifically, I would look at the phenomenon of patients requiring assistance with health-related communication. To put my research into practice, I would make sure I fully grasp how to utilize all four of these ideas to provide the best possible treatment for my patients.
In conclusion, the mission of every nurse is to aid patients in getting better quickly through the provision of high-quality care. In this work, we examine the significance and utility of Jean Watson's human caring theory in healthcare settings. Thus, nurse practitioners need to learn the theory's tenets and employ them to improve patients' health.
