Report
Before, the U.S healthcare system, had adapted the volume-based reimbursement method of payment which focused more on the amount of work that the health care providers were offering rather than prioritizing the service quality and the kind of patient-care they were giving to their patients (Lewanczuk et al., 2020). Over the years it has shifted to Value-based health care, which refers to the value of services offered, in that, healthcare providers are paid according to the results of the services they give to their patients. This services are rated in terms of the quality been offered the efficiency, cost of care and equality. This payment model aims at offering high-value care to its patients at lower costs and at the same time getting better outcomes. This shift has impacted the delivery of care in that, it is very efficient for healthcare providers as their data is collected and analyzed which is then used by institutions in identifying specific health risks to the system (Lewanczuk et al., 2020). With this in mind the institutions are able to take the necessary steps to put in measures that will help curb the risks identified and come up with better and efficient treatment methods. Also they no longer have to worry about being paid in the basis of quantity but rather on the quality and value of their services. Another advantage of this value-based method is that it encourages coordination among the health practitioners. This is due to the set incentives and the new employed technologies being used which all work towards emphasizing collaboration with the aim of getting better overall health for the patients (Lewanczuk et al., 2020). The roles and responsibilities of ARNs in providing value-based care to their patients include, providing comprehensive and very coordinated care to the patients, enhancing health and wellness by promoting it, focusing on improving the general well- being of the patients and also focusing on new treatment methods of managing chronic illnesses at the same time reducing the health cost. Besides all that ARNs play a huge role as they have a more advanced education and training thus well-equipped at
delivering care to their patients based on the value (Coppa et al., 2022). They are also known to be very collaborative with each other hence fancying teamwork in their practice with other healthcare professionals which the patient is well taken care of. Besides all this they are responsible for educating their patients on the complex health system and helping them understand their illnesses and method of treatments and the kind of important decisions they are to make. Their advanced knowledge skills and the whole-person approach gives them more credit and more value among the healthcare member teams as they manage the patient’s overall health (Coppa et al., 2022). The major trends that are likely to affect the health care delivery system and are very likely to affect nursing practice are, telehealth and remote nursing, patient data and nursing informatics, and Artificial Intelligence and Automated Tasks in Nursing. This is mainly because they all revolve around the ever evolving technology. Telehealth has become quite famous during the COVID pandemic as people were so afraid of visiting the hospitals for fear of getting infected (Hooper, 2022). This advancement helps nurses and patients communicate and deliver virtual care with no fear of both parties infecting each other. This trend is advantageous as it’s very flexible for the nurses in terms of working hours and also as for the patient they don’t need to go to the hospital for enquiry. With telehealth it makes it easier for even remote patient monitoring (Hooper, 2022). ARNs will serve an important role in equalizing and leveraging this technology. Apart from the listed trends another trend that is rampant is the growing emphasis on population health and preventive care. ARNs will manage this by leading and supporting initiatives that are promoting health wellness, offer education to communities and individuals and managing chronic conditions. Also the use of AI in the health sector is an upcoming trend as there are already those that have been develop to help monitor people’s blood sugar and pressure
levels. ARNs will be able to adapt to this trend as they will see it as a tool of perfecting their work in enhancing the best patient care (Hooper, 2022). Hence they would use it to help them in different tasks such as data analysis for their patients, risk assessment and predictions and in making informed decisions. This is because AI’s are only to compliment and make them perfect and not replace them as they help save time. Hence it is important that the healthcare nurses keep advancing their education level to keep up with the trends (Hooper, 2022). Word count 761
