Nursing science is associated with answering questions of interest to the nursing profession and adding to its further knowledge. The use of differing viewpoints and paradigms are needed to help in answering questions and providing solutions (McEwen & Wills, 2021). With accessibility, expenses containment, and quality of care drive health care reform, the nursing profession must anticipate how this will impact the overall health care system. With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), nurses are in the central role of achieving a cost-effective and high quality health services - resulting in improved health equity (McEwen & Wills, 2021). Nurses are employed in public health, home health, and ambulatory settings; nursing interventions will focus on assessment, care planning, case management, and health education to accomplish health promotion, health maintenance, and disease prevention. APRNs can prepare to function in a community-based health system; they must be able to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and exhibit critical thinking and decision- making capabilities (McEwen & Wills, 2021). Furthermore, nursing concepts and theories should be developed that highlight cultural competence, resource management, health promotion, risk reduction, motivation, management of chronic diseases, normal aging, maternal-child welfare, and social epidemics (McEwen & Wills, 2021). The use of evidence-based practice (EBP) can help health care providers integrate research findings into clinical practice. It is also an essential part of patient-centered nursing that may be overlooked since nursing interventions are based on experience, tradition, intuition, common sense, and at times, untested theories (McEwen & Wills, 2021).
