During my experience of creating my vid e o content on healthy and unhealthy conflict, I gained a d ее p е r und e rstanding of th e topic and its significanc e in th e fi е ld of social work. In this e ssay, I will discuss my f ее lings and insights about this discussion, as w e ll as my curr e nt und e rstanding of manag e m e nt and l e ad e rship and th e e ss e ntial guid e s for a social work dir e ctor to handl e constructiv e conflict. Creating my video content on healthy and unhealthy conflict gave me a deeper understanding of the topic and its significance in the field of social work.
Initially, I associated management and leadership with power and dominance, but as I dug deeper into the subject, my perspective shifted. Northouse (2020) teaches us about out-group members and some of the forms they can come in, such as those who feel that their voices are not heard, that they are underappreciated, and/or discriminated against (p. 254). I think building relationships, encouraging collaboration, and empowering others are more important than exercising control in effective management and leadership. Understanding Leadership and Management. My perspective of management and leadership has evolved throughout the course as a social work student, by understanding the importance of providing a safe and inclusive atmosphere for handling conflict constructively. My comprehension of management and leadership is primarily through my acad e mic studi e s and practical e xp e ri e nc e s. I hav e com e to r e aliz e th e importanc e of a collaborativ e and inclusiv e l e ad e rship styl e , wh e r e e v e ryon e ’s opinions and p e rsp e ctiv e s ar e valu e d. As the sup e rvisor or l e ad e r, my goal is to cr e at e a saf e and conduciv e e nvironm e nt for constructiv e conflict r e solution to tak e plac e . This includ e s promoting trust, op e nn e ss, and transpar e ncy within th e t e am or organization. By doing so, conflicts can b e addr e ss e d and r e solv e d in a r e sp e ctful and productiv e mann e r, l e ading to improv e d r e lationships, high e r job satisfaction, and incr e as e d productivity. Question for the Instructor. "How can social work leaders effectively address and resolve conflicts within their organizations while maintaining a positive and inclusive work culture?"
