Relate a story where you did not feel included or a part of as it relates to Dr. Rosser-Mims' video. Starting my freshman year in college, I found myself feeling like an outsider. As someone who was naturally introverted and reserved throughout high school, I struggled to find my place in the social scene. Hoping to break out of my shell, I decided to join a fraternity, thinking it would provide me with a sense of belonging. However, the reality was simply different. Despite my efforts to fit in, I found myself feeling even more isolated within the fraternity. The loud parties and constant socializing were overwhelming for me, and I often felt like I did not belong in this new environment. It was a challenging time as I navigated through the unfamiliar territory of college life and fraternity culture, but eventually, I learned to embrace my own pace and found friends who accepted me for who I am. 2. Summarize the "Diversity Model" in Dr. Rosser-Mims' presentation. Dr. Rosser-Mims' Diversity Model emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and embracing diversity in educational settings. The model highlights three key components: recognition, respect, and reconciliation. Recognition involves acknowledging and valuing the differences among individuals, including their backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Respect entails treating all individuals with dignity and understanding, regardless of their differences. Reconciliation focuses on promoting harmony and understanding among diverse groups by fostering open dialogue, empathy, and acceptance. Overall, the Diversity Model aims to create inclusive learning environments where all individuals feel valued and supported. 3. When you study the Diversity and Inclusion model on page 220 in the textbook, what similarities and differences do you see between that model and the diversity model used by Dr. Rosser-Mims? They may also support for creating environments that embrace diversity and provide equal opportunities for all. Bourne 2 As a leader, I believe I excel in encouraging open communication and creating an environment where everyone's voice is heard and respected. This lines up with the core principles of inclusivity, as effective communication is essential for ensuring that diverse perspectives are valued and considered in decision-making processes. By actively listening to the input of team members, encouraging communication, and promoting an atmosphere of collaboration, I strive to create a sense of belonging and authority among those I lead. Also, I prioritize creating opportunities for all individuals to contribute their unique skills and talents to our collective goals. This encompasses recognizing and celebrating diversity within the team and manipulating the strengths of each member to drive innovation and success. By embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive culture, I believe I can harness the full potential of my team and achieve meaningful outcomes. In summary, my focus on communication, collaboration, and recognizing the value of diverse perspectives enables me to excel in promoting inclusion within my leadership role.
