Collaborative Group Organization and Dynamics Myah Edmonson HMGT 495 7381 Professor Shelby Boggs March 26, 2024
Leadership and teamwork are important in a healthcare organization because they improve patient safety and quality patient care. Communication, loyalty and trust, and feedback are the most important components of a successful and productive group work. Being able to work together and communicate will lead to a positive work environment. Communication can “help members understand their responsibilities, navigate potential setbacks and encourage each other while working together to complete a task” (Indeed Editorial Team, 2023). Group members will be able to communicate their roles and duties of the group. They also will be able to support each other in accepting challenges and being successful. I have loyalty and trust in my group members because I am confident and trust their ability to commit and support each group member. Being able to give feedback on each other's work can avoid any formatting, and writing errors. It can also improve communication by giving suggestions and opinions to group members sections on the assigned tasks. It is important to keep each group member's roles and primary duties organized. Some roles include team member, supporter, and leader. One way to organize the group work is by communicating and breaking down assigned tasks for the assignment. For example, Myah answered questions 1 and 2 of Case Study #5, Ceara answered questions 3 and 4, etc. Some ways of communication can be through email, text messaging, or Zoom calls. Another way to organize group work is by setting goals to meet the rubric criteria of the assignment. As a group, we need to make sure we demonstrate critical thinking, use accurate formatting, and ensure that all instructions have been discussed in the assignment. We will help each other give positive and constructive feedback on our assigned task. Even with communication, loyalty and trust, and feedback in being a successful and productive group, there could be challenges that we will have to overcome. The first challenge is 1
we may encounter a miscommunication that can cause confusion within the group. For example, having unclear expectations of assigned tasks to each group member for the assignment. To overcome this challenge, we need to actively- listen, and ask questions. If I need help understanding something that was discussed, asking questions is important. If you can’t overcome this challenge it can lead to additional stress for group members. The second challenge is a lack of motivation. As a group, we will need to encourage each other to be successful and productive in completing the assignment. Ensuring everyone knows their primary duties and assigned roles can lead to organization and successful teamwork. The third challenge is unbalanced work. As a group, we have to assign tasks fairly and equally. For example, Yavone answers questions 1, 2, and 3, and Devin answers question 5. The assigned tasks are not shared equally throughout the group. If 8 questions need to be answered for the paper and there are 4 people in a group then it should be 2 questions per group member. We will equally share work to make things fair and complete the assignment successfully. We also need to show respect to each other and understand that there will be conflicts that we will encounter and need to resolve. A conflict resolution process to ensure the most important components are met is important. If there is a conflict, we need to identify, communicate, acknowledge, and find a resolution. As a group, we “should be willing to be open to other perspectives in order to meet common goals” (Anderson, 2023). Every group has a facilitator that leads the group to success. They can help resolve conflicts between group members and compromise in the situation. Facilitators also use time management, effective collaboration, and critical thinking to resolve conflicts. 2
