9 putting data security and privacy in the midst of concerns when the company engaged in commerce with Cambridge Analytica. (Smithson, 2022). No Doubt, the corporation is success at satisfying the interest of advertisers, employees, and governments but unfortunately the CSR strategy of the corporation fails to adequately serve community interests as stakeholders. Additionally, the business has problems achieving its objectives for corporate citizenship in relation to the users and subscribers of its social network. Undoubtedly, Facebook is making efforts to improve the way they handle and react to the issues targeting the company, but if they are handled in an ethical manner it will not only satisfy the remaining stakeholder –
users and community, but will also be benefits the business as whole as it will help improve the profitability of the company. It will help them gain the trust of their users and community. And gain the trust will bring the company back in the business game stronger than before. It is advised that Facebook strengthen its corporate citizenship initiatives to allay community concerns in light of these CSR problems, particularly through sustainability and ecological community development programs, which are two of the company's CSR obligations. In order to ensure thorough compliance, it is also advised that the organization create more severe data privacy and security rules. This suggestion takes into account the needs of users, members, and communities while also enhancing company competitiveness to combat the moderate competitive pressures identified in the Porter's Five Forces analysis of Facebook (Kissinger, 2018). Conclusion and recommendations –
PART 6 In conclusion, it can be said that not just Facebook but every company in any industry not just social networking, needs to react to social issues in most ethical way as possible. If not reacted or responded in an ethical manner, the company will have risk of losing all its reputation. Its takes years of efforts and experience to gain reputation in a business world and it will definitely will not be worth losing it just by acting unethical. In business world today, it is vital for every corporation to adapt self-regulatory corporate structure that aids an organization in becoming socially responsible to itself, its stakeholders, and the general public. After all the social issues and consequences Facebook had to experience, it is vital that the company sees Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an essential component of their brand image. This will assist the company to gain back the trust of its users once they perceive it is now more ethical. In this regard, CSR initiatives can be a significant part of corporate PR. Additionally, some business founders are inspired to participate in CSR because of their convictions. Majority of fakebook’s revenue is earned through advertisements and the number for the revenue is directly connected to the reach of those advertisement. The each here is expressed through its users. As the result, to save company’s profitability, gain the trust back is essential. Since Facebook has changed its name to Meta and taken over other social networking platform like Instagram and what app, it more important to adapt and make sure that CSR is implemented in their structure because now bad reputation for Facebook will lead to fall in revenue from Instagram and what app as well. We cannot just really on the corporations to make sure that everything goes right with the users. There are some recommendations for industry as whole. Existing laws about data protection
10 aren't enough to protect Facebook users from the ethical harms that could come from how their data is handled. As we've pointed out, "Big Data" is set up in such a way that even if users don't want their data to be deleted or sold and ask for it back, Facebook wouldn't be able to fully meet that request. Because of this, users’ risk having their data used against their will in ways that could hurt their privacy, self-identity, and sense of dignity. This means that there needs to be new ways to protect data that give Facebook users more control over their information. Possible solutions include making data controllers follow new rules that require them to keep user data separate, especially between different Facebook subsidiaries (like the main platform and Instagram), where data are currently mixed. If Meta does not choose to take serious steps now to overcome the loss from being part of above-mentioned social issues, Facebook will lose its control in the industry and its’ competitors like Twitter and Snapchat might take advantage of the situation.
