Specific task instructions The instructions and the criteria in the case studies below will be used by the assessor to determine whether the student has satisfactorily completed each Case Study Scenario. Use these instructions and criteria to ensure you demonstrate the required knowledge. When you are answering the sections in this assessment, please check the marking sheet that the teacher will use, so you know what you must cover in this case study report Please answer all sections of this assessment in the ROI_InternetworkDesign_Report_Template document Document title: ICTNWK424, ICTNWK429, ICTTEN417, ICTTEN419, ICTTEN434 Page 7 of 19 Resource ID:
Part 1: Case Study Scenario Read the Email from the Project Supervisor below, then complete the network design document based on the template in Part 2. Case Study Scenario: Email from Project Supervisor: To: technician@roi.com.au From: terence.steward@roi.com.au Subject: ROI Expansion Plans Dear Technician, ROI has recently expanded and wants to open an office in Perth. The project at the moment is exploratory and will go as far as prototype stage to determine if the plan is feasible. They would like you to help them with the design and prototyping of the new proposed network. The objective of this project is to create a suitable network design document and prototype that meets the needs and requirements of our client ROI prior to completion of this semester. I have met with the client and concluded the following: There will be 2 offices in total, head office in Sydney and the proposed new office in Perth. The Sydney router is the company’s internet gateway, all Perth’s traffic needs to route through the firewall in Sydney. At the Perth office there are the following staff: o 15 in the Multimedia department o 5 in the Sales and Marketing department o 1 in the IT Support department, plus any switches and routers. o Additionally, IT Department users require wireless access to access the network from their mobile tablets. They have a web server in Sydney (190.15.200.2) that needs to be available to the Perth office as well as external customers. They want the Perth network to follow good security practices when installing and configuring the networking devices Document title: ICTNWK424, ICTNWK429, ICTTEN417, ICTTEN419, ICTTEN434 Page 8 of 19 Resource ID:
Connections between Perth and Sydney at the present time will be simulated by an HDLC connection, the final connection type to be determined at a later time, but is likely to be some type of leased line or shared lines using IPSec tunnels for security. Budget is $50,000 They expect the Perth office to grow at a rate of approx. 10% year on year. It is your job to create a network design document. Your network design should reflect the following technologies/services in order to fulfil the company’s objectives. 3 data VLANs at Perth, named Multimedia, SalesMarketing and ITSupport. One management VLAN, the same as the ITSupport VLAN above. As part of the IT Dept. VLAN network design, you will need to provide details of: o How the wireless network access for the mobile tablets will be integrated into the LAN design. o how you will limit this wireless network access to IT Dept users only Use 2 physical switches at the Perth site because of the physical location of workers across building. Use Private IP Addressing scheme for all VLANs and the WAN link. You cannot use the IP addresses that are already been used by Sydney. The Sydney router’s Internet port is to have a static public address assigned by the ISP of 209.165.200.225/29 The Sydney router should specify a speed of 4 Megabits for the Perth Router Port security on the switches Perth to lock end device ports in the SalesMarketing VLAN to a maximum 1 mac addresses in a restricted violation state. Set the connections between switches as trunks. Use InterVLAN routing to allow communication between the VLANs in the Perth office. Use a DHCPserver on the Perth router to issue ip addresses to the clients for the both the Multimedia and SalesMarketing VLANs. Use a simple routing protocol between the 2 offices. You must use a class less routing protocol (such as RIP or OSPF) as your routing protocol. Use NAT to hide the private IP addresses from the Internet and to provide access to the Internet. Use an ACL on the Perth router to limit remote management access to the ITSupport VLAN in Perth. You do not need to take into consideration: Firewalls on routers Purchase of PCs or Servers etc. WAN links beyond what is mentioned above Document title: ICTNWK424, ICTNWK429, ICTTEN417, ICTTEN419, ICTTEN434 Page 9 of 19 Resource ID:

You can use a virtual environment (such as Packet Tracer) to research and test various aspects of your solution. I will ask you to build a prototype of the design solution to test your capability in a couple of weeks' time. Kind Regards, Terence Stewart Project Supervisor If you have any questions, then please clarify with your assessor. 2.14. Role play – oral communication activity: Proposal Presentation The general purpose of this meeting is to present your proposal to external network Manager and internal technical advisor. Roles and details for each party : Your role – You will play the role of the technician of ROI who developed the network design and prototype. You will need to provide the proposal presentation to the external network manager and internal technical advisor during a meeting about the proposed installation. You will liaise with the external network manager and discuss and confirm the suitability of the proposed installations. You will need to liaise with the internal technical advisor to clarify the network installation details. To show participation you will need to: Greet your colleagues in a friendly manner. Explain the proposal and prototype to external network manager and internal technical advisor. Discuss and confirm the suitability of the proposed installations with the external network manager. Identify safety hazards and implements risk control measures in consultation with network manager. Clarify the network installation details with the internal technical advisor. Seek feedback from external network manager and internal technical advisor. External network manager – You teacher will allocate someone to play the role of External Network Manager. This person will interact with you as follows: Greet you Listen to your proposal presentation Discuss and confirm the suitability of the proposed installations with the external network manager.
