Part 1: Install, configure and test a wireless network To complete this assessment, you will be required to participate in a practical demonstration of how to complete a task or activity. These practicals will be observed by your assessor. Your responses will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit. Once completed you will need to submit this assessment and the tasks and activities you are required to complete to your assessor for marking. Background scenario – Smith & Jones Consulting Please refer to the supplied scenario Smith & Jones Consulting scenario (Smith_and_Jones_Consulting.pdf) . Smith & Jones Consulting has an in-house IT department headed by Janet Twomey (the IT manager). Due to time constraints they have decided to outsource the initial installation of the network and server upgrades to a local company specialising in this area. After the new network is installed it will be maintain by the in-house IT department. Smith & Jones Consulting, on the recommendation of Janet Twomey (the IT manager), has authorised you to implement a wireless network to provide secure network access for all wireless and portable devices of employees. After much investigation you have determine the network configuration requirements for Stage 1 of this project. You are now required to implement this Stage 1 network according to these configurations. (Refer to the following Project resources for the network configuration requirements). Task In this part of the assessment your task is to build a network following the topology shown above in the Network Topology diagram (Figure 1). This has been broken down into the following sections: Section 1: Prepare network environment Section 2: Configure wireless network, security and other key parameters Section 3: Check Progress Section 4: Test and troubleshoot wireless network Section 5. Configure and test security and firewall arrangements Section 1. Prepare network environment In this section you will be creating your network environment in Cisco Packet Tracer. Step 1.1: Load the network configuration files 1. Open ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2.pka with Cisco Packet Tracer to implement the network. All required devices have already been positioned on the workspace. 2. Save your file as ICTNWK405_ AE_Sk_2of2 _<Your_Name>.pka where <Your_Name> is your full name. Make sure that you regularly save your file so that you do not lose any of your work. Document title: ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2 Page 10 of 20 Resource ID: TBS_19_003_ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2 STUDENT NAME:
Section 2. Configure wireless network, security and other key parameters Complete each of the following steps in order using the settings supplied in the tables above. The tables contain the settings and configurations that have been determined from the commercial and business requirements for Smith & Jones Consulting’s wireless network. This includes wireless, security and other key parameters. NOTE: I recommend configuring the RADIUS server first and the client machines last Step Table 2.1 Configure client machines Table 2: Client settings Note : The PCs require installation of a wireless IEEE802.11n compatible NIC before it can be configured. 2.2 Configure wireless router/access points Table 3: WiFi access point configuration settings 2.3 Configure RADIUS server Table 4: RADIUS server configuration settings Section 3. Check Progress Section 4. Test and troubleshoot wireless network Step 4.1: Verify network connectivity. Check all devices are connecting wirelessly to the appropriate wireless router/access point using the required authentication method. Not all devices will be able to ping one another. Use the ping command and HTTP via a browser to test connectivity between devices (The RADIUS server is also the company web server). Use the following table to methodically verify and document connectivity with each network device. NOTE: You may need to release and renew your end devices to get the IP address from the correct Access Point. Step 4.2: Record the troubleshooting process and configuration changes Your instructor will provide you with a Packet Tracer file that has some problems that you need to troubleshoot. ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2_Troubleshoot.pka There are three (3) different problems in this network. Use this log to document your actions and results during the troubleshooting process. List the steps you took to gather information and, as you progress, record your thoughts as to what you think the problem might be and what actions you took to correct the problems. Section 5. Configure and test security and firewall arrangements Step 5.1: Configure and test firewall In this section you will be creating configuring the firewall settings. Step 5.1: Load the network configuration files Open ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2_Firewall.pka with Cisco Packet Tracer A web server has been added to Level 3 and is connected to port Ethernet 1 on the wireless router on that level. It has an IP address of 192.168.40.100/24 You need to make that server accessible to other devices in the network by configuring port forwarding on the wireless router. Test by connecting with a browser to the appropriate IP address. <screen shot> Call your instructor over for confirmation of your completed firewall configuration. Part 2 – Monitor and administer a wireless network Equipment For this part of the assessment you will need the following equipment: Integrated Services Router (ISR) Wireless network Windows Performance Monitor (part of Windows operating system). In Windows 10, you can use Performance Monitor to analyse data, such as processor, hard drive, memory, and network usage. Refer to help with the Windows Performance Monitor for help. If you do not have this equipment available to you at home then your assessor will make alternative arrangements. Step 2.1 Using your home wireless network, document the settings on your Integrated Services Router (ISR) including all the security settings. Use the table below for your answer, extending the number of rows as needed. Setting Value Include screen shots and brief descriptions to provide evidence of your work in the table below. Document title: ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2 Page 16 of 20 Resource ID: TBS_19_003_ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2 STUDENT NAME:
Step 2.2 Documenting the settings for a business’s Integrated Services Router (ISR) creates a security risk for that business. Explain how this documentation should be stored. Use the table below for your answer. (Approx. 100 words) Cisco Routers Series: ASR versus ISR - Summit 360 What is ISR router? What is the difference between ISR and normal router? - Bayt.com Specialties Cisco 1861E Integrated Services Router (iptrading.com.au) how to document and store the settings of Integrated Services Router (ISR) what is Integrated Services Router (ISR) how to store Integrated Services Router (ISR) documentation Integrated Services Router (ISR) documentation and storage how Integrated Services Router (ISR) documentation of the settings should be stored Documenting the settings for a business’s Integrated Services Router (ISR) If you are referring to Cisco Integrated Services Routers (Cisco ISR), it uses Cisco IOS software that is used on most Cisco System Routers (800, 2900 or 4000 ISR). There is also IOS XR which is basically for carrier grade routers (ASR or CRS). Non IOS routers are usually SMB routers (like RV routers), where as IOS provides a higher level of management/configuration compared to non-IOS (GUI web based routers). Do you need assistance on picking a right router model? Document title: ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2 Page 17 of 20 Resource ID: TBS_19_003_ICTNWK405_AE_Sk_2of2 STUDENT NAME:
Step 2.3 Connect your PC or laptop to your wireless network. Hint: If possible also connect another PC or laptop to the same wireless network. This will make it easier to generate more network traffic and consequently more data for monitoring. Generate network traffic on the wireless network, by transferring large files between multiple PCs or downloading large files. Monitor the wireless network performance using the Windows Performance Monitor tool. Using this tool create a line graph of the performance of the Network Adapter and take a screen shot. Ensure your graph includes results for the following counters for the Wireless Connection instance: Bytes Sent/second Bytes Received/second Bytes Total/second Packets/second Bandwidth Include screen shots and brief descriptions to provide evidence of your work in the table below.
