Anthony Calabrese
Replace the bracketed text below with your responses.
Identify the topic you chose to explore:
Climate Change- Chernobyl
Describe the historical context surrounding your historical event.
The fact that the number 4 reactor exploded.
The areas around Chernobyl were evacuated and
still today do not have anyone living there.
All sorts of radioactivity were found in the area.
The
exclusion stone is still showing signs of radioactivity.
The area around Chernobyl cannot be
used for farming or drinking water.
The government has attempted to hide the fact that it was an
explosion and has created dissension between the people and the government.
The explosion has been cause for new laws and regulations regarding nuclear power and
incidents.
They have locked down the entire reactor to form a coffin around it.
Describe a key historical figure or group’s participation in your historical event.
Deputy Chief Engineer Anatoly Dyatlov was a historical figure at this point.
He held a high
position in Soviet society and was responsible for overseeing of how Chernobyl’s operation.
During an event like this, he made some decisions that were the cause of this.
Unfortunately, he
was sentenced to prison time for this.
Explain the key historical figure or group’s motivation to participate in your historical event.
I think that Anatoly Dyatlov’s motivation was due to the fact that the Soviet Union forced
the production targets and conserved the deception of a perfect system.
He felt the power
of Soviet technology and was trying to demonstrate the resources for the reactor by
pushing its limit.
Due to his professional determination and the Soviet philosophy that
regards industrial success over what he should have.
Articulate how the historical context caused or influenced your chosen historical event
The Soviet Union’s fiscal and partisan configuration provided concealment as the
information was strictly forbidden and opposing views were hidden.
The absence of
clarity stalled the spreading of safety intelligence and did not allow the workers to
understand the risks associated with the project’s flaws in the reactor.
The succeeding
conspiracy and negligence of Chernobyl scoured the public trust and showed the
increasing discontentment that led to the demise of the Soviet Union.
Explain how connecting your historical event and current event improves the understanding of
your topic.
Connecting the historical and current events could get to the root of the problem.
The
events highlight the consequences of prioritizing short-range objectives over long-term
sustainability and security.
By looking at the reasons and assessments of essential groups
involved in the Chernobyl explosion, we recognize how their actions and choices can
have extreme attainment significance particularly when they were motivated by political
or monetary thoughts.
This can inform how we approach focusing and mitigating the
tasks modeled by climate change and further global concerns.
