HIST-1302-81422 October 3, 2020 World War II After watching “Memory of the Camps,” I’m lost for words and can’t describe the horrors that took place. It sickens me to see so many people lost their lives for no reason, and It shows how evil humans can be to one another. I truly think we should continue to educate and keep people aware about one of the most horrific and shameful parts of human history which existed in the past. The tragic thing is that genocide is still happening around the world, but not widely reported. As I read through chapter 16 "A People's War?" I learned that history textbooks often perpetuate the notion that the U.S. joined World War 2 because of its sense of responsibility to end the oppression of Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship and to fight for human rights. However, what the textbooks failed to mention is that America joined the war because it wanted to further expand its power. There were also many reasons that led to the war, the Japanese attack on the American base at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 was one of the factors that fully brought the U.S. into the war. The war went on and Japan was soon to surrender before the America dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, yet Truman chose to disregard it completely and issued orders to do so. The fact that people who had nothing to do with this war turned to dust in an instant just shows the pure evil of mankind.
