HIST-1302-81422 October 9, 2020 The Cold War After watching the video "Why we fight," I was shocked by the misconception of the United States federal government and how it often depicts itself as a unique government that promotes nothing but international peace and equality. The truth is that, the politicians at that time manipulated the American public into believing that this country was fighting for "freedom" and "liberty." The video explained the government’s involvement in foreign nations and its motives behind wars. For example, one of the factors is oil from the Middle East, and simply to retain dominance over other countries. As I read through chapter 8, "Watching Big Brother," I also learned the concept of the heroism of the United States government and how it basically implemented policies driven by power and greed. The chapter further explains how the FBI, or the CIA might have been involved in the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. In fact, I always had second thoughts about this incident that the federal government often targeted African American activists in order to try to stop enacting racial equality legislation. Therefore, there is a strong possibility for them to plan an execution of the civil rights leaders if you ask me.
