While taxes on same goods had been ifted, the tax on tea was still in place Stamp Act (1765) The Stamp Actimposed the first direct British tax on the American colonists. It required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ships’ papers, legal documents, licenses, wwspapers, and ather publications were all included.
