Week 2 Pick a current Executive Order, one that you strongly agree pick another current Executive Order that you oppose. Discuss both. Be sure to include information on why you feel the way you do about the particular Executive Orders and what makes you feel the way that you do. Include the number of and the title of the Executive Orders in the heading. https://www.federalregister.gov/presidential-documents/executive-orders Hello Class, This week we learned about the many types of established Executive Orders and had to pick one that we strongly agreed with along with one we opposed. Below you will read my selections. Executive Order 14087: Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for Americans On October 14, 2022, the Executive Order (EO) for lowering prescription costs for Americans was passed enabling struggling families the needed resources to treat their injuries/illness. ( Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for Americans , 2022) When reading this Executive Order, I related to it because growing up, I was not able to get the medication I needed for a broken ankle because of my mother’s single income. This EO saves Americans thousands of dollars. All Medicare beneficiaries will pay $0 out of pocket for adult vaccines. Since Medicare accounts for 30.8 million people, with a rise of 8% from 2022 to 2023, this only benefits more and more struggling families who seek medications for their needed treatments (Biniek, Damico, Freed, Neuman, and Ochieng, 2023). Executive Order 14043: Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. I strongly disagree with the implementation of this Executive Order because working in the U.S. Air Force, I was forced to get this accelerated tested vaccination. At the peak of COVID- 19, I was deployed at an undisclosed location. There were many unknowns with this disease but one thing we knew was it was dangerous and killing millions of people. We were unable to move from our location and our deployment got extended months due to the travel restrictions into the United States. When travel restrictions were lifted, there were still requirements to travel (i.e. face masks, the use of hand sanitizer, social distancing, etc.). The military was trying to tempt its members by telling us, if we received the vaccination, some of these requirements we would not be subject to. September 9, 2021, EO 14043 was implemented making Federal employees the test subjects of this vaccination. ( Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees , 2023) When the military forced its members to receive this vaccination, there was not an option to opt out of it. If we refused, our military contracts were terminated. It forced many military members that I have served a long time with, out of the military and seek employment elsewhere. I strongly disagree with this EO mainly because of how quickly the FDA was able to approve a vaccination on a disease that was new to the world. HIV has been identified for decades and there is still no cure on this virus. In addition to my personal views on this matter, it is
unethical to force an individual to put something into their body just because they work a federal job. Thank you for viewing and I look forward to your feedback. -Marcus References: Biniek, J.F., Damico, A., Freed, M., Neuman, T., Ochieng, N.
