Part 1: Creating a Research Question
1.
Describe how your assumptions, beliefs, and values influenced your choice of topic.
It is quite alarming to see and hear what people go through because of the injustice shown
in inequality threatening the human rights of people with disability. People with disability
are often relegated to the background and we often don’t give them much attention and respect. I have always been about creating room and the atmosphere for people with disability to feel comfortable anywhere I happen to be in their midst. This should really be a standard and a normal thing for everyone to treat this community with dignity and respect. In my original country, there are still myths and traditions about people with disability, and whiles searching and studying about this topic I realized it is also the same
in some other parts of the world and sadly so in America. I decided to write on the challenges and the inequalities people with disability go through because I feel like we are in a time and age where great awareness of these group should have been widely accepted but unfortunately that is not the case.
2.
Discuss the significance of your historical research question in relation to your current event.
My research question seeks to alert and bring more awareness and air out some of the reasons why we are not seeing much of improvements when it comes to equality with the people of disability. Hence the question, does inequality threaten the human rights of people with disability. Recently in Wisconsin 4 voters with disability filed a lawsuit in the federal court seeking for them return of absentee ballot after the Wisconsin supreme 1
banned that practice. The is one of the many decisions that has been taken which alienates people with disability from the mainstream things we do. This will inhibit such groups from voting.
3.
Explain how you used sources to finalize your research question.
Many sources were considered when I was researching on the topic of inequality especially as it pertains to the people with disabilities. I realized that both the primary and
secondary sources that sided with the issue of inequality with people with disability. Both
resources had some that had written on the improvement that has been seen whiles others also reported the horrors that most of the people with disability face daily. Considering the many views, the sources brought to light many angles I considered when I was researching and it helped in the shaping of my research question.
Part 2: Building Context to Address Questions
1.
Describe the context of your historical event that influenced your current event.
Throughout history people with disability have been treated unfairly and under harsh conditions. Just like the minority was treated in the past, people with disability were also discriminated against from workplaces and schools just to mention but few. This resulted in the enactment of the Americans with disability act in 1990. The goal of this act was to stop all forms of discrimination and terrible treatment of people with disabilities. Ever since this law was enacted the treatment of people with disability has gotten better but there is still more that must be done to help them. In recent times there are cooperate places and other social places in our community that are constructed without having this community of people in mind. Also, there are a lot of technologies that are coming that 2
the manufacturers do not consider people with disability or even make it disability friendly. 2.
Describe a historical figure or group’s participation in your historical event.
One historical figure that was very instrumental in the historical event is President George H. W Bush, on July 26, 1990, when more than two thousand people had gathered at the White House to witness the signing of the Americans with Disability Act into law. As a way of living up to the founding principle of equality it was about time that this was enacted for this minority of Americans to be treated right and fair. He also saw this to hopefully bridge that gap that had been created years back.
3.
Explain the historical figure or group’s motivation to participate in your historical event.
The motivation of the President Bush for signing the ADA into law was that, for far too long we haven’t been able to live the principles of the founding fathers of the land. This was the opportunity to bring this people into light and further protect them from anyone that might discriminate against them. This also to help families take care of their people and to give them the same rights as every American has. To be respected and not ignored.
Part 3: Examining How Bias Impacts Narrative
1.
Describe a narrative you identified while researching the history of your historical event.
Whiles researching the history of my historical event, the main narrative I found was that inequality against the people with disability has threatened their human rights for a very long time. Also, I realized that the society stigmatizes people with disability, for this reason the rich usually do not want to disclose their disability with the fear of facing 3

stigmatization, how much more the poor with disability in society? I found out the President Roosevelt tried to hide his disability for a long time, if it wasn’t for the position
and his political ambitions it wouldn’t have been found out. Many celebrities today have disabilities, but they do not even want to talk about just because of the afore mention reason of stigmatization and harsh treatment form the society. With all this said the main thing the was prevalent in the narrative was the discrimination people with disability faces on all spheres. 2.
Articulate how biased perspectives presented in primary and secondary sources influence what is known or unknown about history.
Really, I didn’t find any bias with all the sources that I reviewed. The narrative of all the sources were in sink and spoke to the horrors, what has been done and what will be done to help this community of people and to number them as part of the society and not a liability. Ever since the human rights law was signed into law, the breakthrough for the people with disability was for the ADA to be signed into law just for them to be protected
and served right as Americans.
3.
Identify the perspectives that you think are missing from your historical event’s narrative.
Some of the perspectives that I believe were missing from the historical events narrative was not having more of direct source from the that were and been affected by the horrors that they go through. These voices and that of families would mean a lot and could have made a lot of difference just like what happened in 1990. I believe not so many people know and are aware of the history of disability in America and this is because perhaps the
story has either not been told or has been downplayed.

Part 4: Connecting the Past with the Present
1.
Explain how researching its historical roots helped improve your understanding of your current event.
For a very long-time families with people with disabilities have really fought for the ADA act to have been enacted. Researching the roots has helped me understand the reason families continue to fight for better situation and to end discrimination of this group of persons. The society continues to have negative image of people with disability and hold them, this attitude is what informs the devalued social roles and positions that we fill them. 2.
Articulate how questioning your assumptions, beliefs, and values may benefit you as an individual.
Questioning my beliefs, assumptions and values will benefit me in many ways. First, I believe that assumptions are not always true and so questioning them will put one in a better place to accept what might be the truth. Secondly, beliefs and values are created and developed by the culture of a people. When you can question what you believe and why you believe the will set you right to either pas it on or make changes to make you a better person. The last thing I would say for questioning my assumptions, belief and values will make you curious always to adapt anywhere you find yourself.
3.
Discuss how being a more historically informed citizen may help you understand contemporary issues.
History always helps in predicting the future. We can understand contemporary issues and events when we know the roots of the issues from the past. For example, one can understand the current rampant shootings of African Americans when they know the 5
history behind the relationship of the law enforcement which has gone sour. Being informed historically helps you to understand the political events and decisions both in the country and the world at large. Not only are we able to understand the political sphere
but we are able to make better decisions for our lives. When we know our history, we can
live cordially with other people and because we better understand them by knowing and understanding their history. Being historically informed gives you an opportunity to know the changes that has occurred with time in terms of technology.
