He values the ability to be authentic and not be swayed by external influences. I agree with what he is saying because it is important to be your authentic self in order to be happy in your own company as well as live a life that you don’t have to pretend about. ii. “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
Seneca Falls Convention & Transcendentalists Meaning: Emerson emphasizes personal agency and self-determination. E suggests that individuals have the power to shape their own destinies by making conscious choices and decisions about who they want to be. I agree with what Emerson is saying as the only person who can change and dictate what your destiny might look like is you. Yes, situations and conditions might make it harder sometimes but if dedicated enough, you can change your situation by making smart choices. Henry David Thoreau quotes i. “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” Meaning: he encourages individuality and nonconformity. He suggests that if someone’s beliefs or actions deviate from societal norms, it might be because they have their own unique perspective and should follow their own path. Yes, I agree, if a person’s choices or actions differ from the societal norms, they have a different perspective of certain things which should be embraced by the said person. ii. “Our life is frittered away by detail... simplify, simplify.” Meaning: Thoreau advocates for simplicity and living deliberately. He believes that people often get caught up in unnecessary complexes d distractions, and he encourages focusing on what truly matters one’s life to find meaning and fulfillment. Yes, I agree with Thoreau as so many people don’t realize they are getting too caught up in their daily lives and busy schedules, that they forget to take a moment for themselves. It is good to be goal driven, but it’s also important to also focus on other things in life that truly matter and bring happiness.
