Understanding healthcare delivery in the US is crucial for healthcare managers due to a variety of reasons. Primarily, healthcare delivery in the US is complex and constantly evolving, which requires managers to stay up to date with the latest trends and developments in the field. Secondly, healthcare managers are responsible for ensuring that the delivery of healthcare services is efficient and effective, and understanding the intricacies of healthcare delivery in the US is critical to achieving this. According to Shi et al. (2019), it’s important for managers to understand their position within the macro environment of the healthcare system. This will allow managers to strategically plan, handle threats and opportunities, evaluate the implications of health policy and reform, capture new markets, and comply with regulations all while following their organizational mission. (Shi et al., 2019, p.21) A solid understanding of US healthcare delivery is essential for implementing information technology, including telemedicine, at a healthcare organization. As a manager, using your background in healthcare delivery can help you identify areas where telemedicine can be most effective and where it may face challenges. You can also use this knowledge to ensure that the telemedicine implementation is aligned with the overall goals and objectives of the organization and that it is integrated with existing healthcare delivery systems. To implement new information technology within a healthcare organization, managers need to understand their relationship with the rest of the healthcare environment and how that implementation will affect the environment. There are several considerations to think about before implementing telemedicine. Shi et al., (2019) explains that managers must consider the effect on quality of care, cost, reimbursement rates, insurance mechanisms, delivery modes, legal opinions as well as government regulations (p.21). By implementing telemedicine, healthcare organizations can improve access to care, reduce costs, and enhance patient outcomes. However, implementing telemedicine requires careful planning and consideration of a variety of factors, including regulatory requirements, technological capabilities, and patient preferences. With a thorough understanding of healthcare delivery in the US, you can help ensure that the telemedicine implementation is successful and meets the needs of both patients and healthcare providers.
