Topic 2:
Teacher as a change agent
What I learned: In the topic of how to foster teacher leader in education, I learned that positive
change in the school is not a reserve for the school administers. Instead, school administers needs
to employer others or teachers to become change agents to catalyze and lead change related to
new practice that are useful to improve teaching and learning (Couros, 2017). Teacher as change
agent play critical role in changing the norms or practices inhibit teaching improvement among
their colleagues.
So what: This learning was significant because it shows that school can enable teachers to
become change agents or lead change by developing new teaching methods and use them. It
changed my thinking that teaching practices only involves those supported by research evidence.
Now, I understand that successful school and student performance/outcomes are possible when
teachers mobilize new teaching ideas and perspectives amongst themselves (Brown et al., 2021).
Now what: As a result from this insight, I plan to become a change agent by leading my
colleagues in determining new perspectives or approaches to teaching.
One recommended
approach I could use to become a change agent is to join professional learning network to be able
to identify new ways of teaching and share them with colleagues to facilitate adoption in the
classroom practices to improve student outcomes (Brown et al., 2011).
