In your initial post, identify one audience that you may communicate with for business purposes. You may use the same audience from the Module Two discussion or choose a different audience. Then, discuss the following: What is at least one purpose that a technical communicator might have to communicate with this audience? Which communication type or combination of types would you use to communicate with this audience for that purpose? List at least one communication type and explain why this type would be the most effective for this audience. Which communication channel would you use to communicate with this audience for that purpose? List at least one channel and explain why this channel would be the most effective for this audience. In my previous post I discussed the various types of people I communicate with in my job but one I would like to focus on in particular is the brands I work with. One of the main purposes for a technical communicator reaching out to this audience is for clarification or requesting information. For example, I had a brand reach out to me wanting an update on changes to their products and when they should expect to have it done. I had to then communicate with them that our website is undergoing renovations and have hit a slight technical bump so it may take longer than initially expected. Of course, when explaining this, I couldn’t tell them what that technical issue was or why it was happening, instead, I had to simplify and use common everyday terms that people are familiar with. Therefore, the most effective communication type for this audience would be written as we are all in different time zones and it can be difficult to connect via verbal communication. This way, we have things in writing, can send documents back and forth, and communicate effectively. The best communication channel with this audience are emails along with reports. This would be the most effective communication type because not only can the reports deliver the information needed in a consolidated piece but also provide illustrative examples. Additionally, email is the best for the reasons stated above. It helps with effective communication, cc multiple departments at once, and reply to client concerns quickly rather than having to schedule a call that works with everyone’s schedule.
