Describe your cultural identity using the culture wheel.
I am one of 6 kids on my mom’s side and 1 of 4 kids on my dad’s side. My parents will be married 32 years this November. My mom has 2 kids from her previous marriage. I have always had both parents. Growing up we were told that we go out of town on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter to my mom’s ex-husband family to spend the holidays with them. Even though it is my mom’s EX they made a point to stay friends for my older brother and older sisters sack and since my mom and me and my younger siblings they have accepted us as family. So, every holiday we get up and go enjoy about 2 hours with our family and then we do our own family traditions. It shows that one co-parenting done right can be beneficial to both their bio child and the future children of either parent. This is the only real tradition we have that has stuck with me for the past 29 years. I would say this falls under the cultural identity of knowledge because it help shows me that if my husband and I do divorce that I can have a good co-parenting set up for
my children since I have witnessed the benefits of co-parenting can have on the children as well as the future children of the others. Identify the ways that you may have altered your cultural identity in order to assimilate and acculturate into the American culture and include the usage of language, the adoption of values, traditions, rituals, foods, tools, objects, and so forth.
Well one of the ways that I have altered one of the culture identities is language. I used to always
say “finna” instead of “about”, “yall” instead of “you all”. Since I got with my husband 11 years ago, he has constantly corrected me. I call him a grammar nazi. But not looking back he was just helping me especially with an assistant teaching position, I speak more clearly and use better wording than what I used to. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the use of the term multiculturalism.
As a politics of ethnicity, race, and culture, multiculturalism acknowledges and celebrates the diversity of nationalities, races, and cultures within the dominant political culture. Multiculturalism has the following benefits and drawbacks. Diverse ethnic groups living together
promote economic growth and community development. It may be possible to lessen stereotypes if individuals learn to appreciate and respect each other's differences while acknowledging and celebrating their commonalities. There are some difficulties or drawbacks related to parental upbringing, such as the lack of communication between ethnic groups and miscommunication among them.
Summarize the historic and systemic societal bias found in the helping professions (i.e., public health and law enforcement) against minorities.
By highlighting structural bias in law enforcement and public health, BMC Public Health strives to ensure equal access to healthcare for racialized minorities. Healthcare providers discriminate
against racialized minorities, which has caused delays and mistrust among minority communities.
Analyze the methods used in medicine against various groups in Nazi Germany that can be attributed to antisemitism, genocide, and ethnic cleansing.
Nazi Germany's medical techniques against different populations serve as a reminder of how challenging and terrible life was for those who had to deal with such horrors. Abuse of power by leaders led to a variety of practices, including forced sterilization, euthanasia, medical experimentation on prisoners and those in concentration camps, and the death of disabled people because they believed they had "lives not worth living" (Loue, 2022). It is clear from these tests that Nazi doctors thought that the "well-being of the community" was more important than individual rights. These medical procedures were utilized to illustrate the threat that the Nazis presented, which led to the deaths of millions of innocent people.
