1 Self-Reflection Harley Algood College Name, Grand Canyon University UNV-104: Communication and Information Literacy Marcella Knapp 08/28/2022
2 Self-Reflection Using effective communication in my program of study, “bachelors of science in elementary teaching” is especially important as I will have to communicate every day not only to my class but to parents, and coworkers and I use it every day. Accepting constructive feedback, having goof listening skills, having clarity, and using several types of body language while listening to my students and coworkers will help with effective communication in my field of study. Over the past few weeks, I have attended UNV-104 I have learned how to take constructive feedback as it has lets me know whether my communication was clear or not and what I may need to work on for me to make my communication so use what I learn for my field of study. I have learned the clearer I am with my communication the better understood I am. Furthermore, in my field of study it is important to have good listening skills, being able to carry a conversation, and having clarity. I can connect with children on a personal level which helps me gain their trust. I can help them tricky situation such as talking, asking if they need to talk to the school counselor, or just simply listening and talking to them. One of the easiest ways of missed communication starts off is by not knowing what to call each other and there could be mixed messages or no messages at all (Curzan, 2014). Once a child knows my name, they will feel more comfortable coming to you and talking to me, and I fell that is important in my field of study. Carrying on a conversation is simply asking questions which lets them know you are listening and using clear communication. It is important to have clarity in my field of study because I need all my students to be able to understand what I am talking about, and they understand.
3 Additionally, using several types of body language while listening to my colleagues and my students is a way to have effective communication in my field of study. Body language passes the message faster for example if one of my coworkers or students are talking, and I am looking at them, making eye contact, and nodding as they are talking it relays the message that I am listening and understanding what they are saying. Personally, I feel eye contact and giving feedback will let them know that I am interested in listening and talking to them so there are no mixed signals in my communication. Finally, as humans we use communicate every day. Using effective communication is important in the workplace as we may do something wrong, and we are given constructive feedback to try to fix it, but effective communication happens in the real world as well. Having good listening skills and clarity will help with having better effective communication in the workplace. Using good body language will go along way with effective communication. Using effective communication can build a working relationship between you and whomever you may be communicating to such as coworkers, students, and parents.
