HR Case Study 2 week 1
1.How can a firm know when it’s a good idea to implement telecommuting or not?
There has been a growth in telecommuting; in fact, throughout the COVID-19 epidemic, this trend continued. The vast majority of industries stopped operating during this time, forcing employers to reevaluate their strategies for keeping workers employed (USC Annenberg, 2023). Before deciding whether to allow telecommuting, a company must examine all facets of its operations to see how this would affect the company's growth. Put otherwise, can the work be completed from home without negatively impacting the company? A business must have also considered the possible drawbacks as well as all of the possible advantages of telecommuting. A corporation must also consider whether its employees' training fulfills the organization's objectives and standards. Finally, in order to completely determine whether the choice to deploy telecommuting will be successful, the organization needs to have a provisional trail that will allow for a more precise response (SBBC). 2.Can you think of any other pros and cons related to telecommunicating that aren’t mentioned in
this case?
There are a lot of benefits and drawbacks to telecommuting for both employers and employees. One of the main benefits of telecommuting for employers is that it allows them to cut
costs on items that would otherwise be required when employing people on the ground. Second, telecommuting allows businesses to continue operating while other enterprises cannot; COVID-
19 is one example of this.
Additionally, under some conditions, businesses may be able to set up a more flexible work schedule that enables operations to take place seven days a week. Last but not least, allowing employees to work from home will increase the company's appeal to prospective hires. There are
now an immense number of advantages for employees as well. One of the biggest benefits is flexibility, this flexibility gives employees the time and opportunity to do other tasks that they could not do in an office setting. As the cost of living continues to rise, employees will also be able to save money and time by reducing their travel and commuting expenses to and from the office. Employees with disabilities would also benefit from telecommuting. This is because these
employees would have access to accommodations that are already set up at home (USC Annenberg, 2023).
There are several drawbacks to working from home, in addition to its many positives. The biggest drawback of telecommuting, in the eyes of employers, is security. This is because any corporation's private information could be at risk due to the internet's vulnerability. The "Zoon Bombings" are one instance of this; meetings were being disrupted and passwords were being stolen to such an extent that the FBI had to warn users about privacy problems (Kamran, M. 2020). The inability to see employees is another drawback, and although though technology enables video calls, voice calls are not the same (USC Annenberg, 2023). Furthermore, there are a few drawbacks to telecommuting from the perspective of the employee. Distraction and lack of
focus could be a serious issue for both the company and the employee. When working from home, there can be a significant increase in distractions, such as family members, which can cause one to lose concentration in completing assigned task.
