Just because my career choice is to be an educator does not mean that I am done learning or that I should feel the ability to look down at my students or belittle them in any way, shape or form. I am not done learning just because I am a teacher, in fact I will probably be learning more from my students than I will be teaching.
Throughout my career as a teacher, I will be dealing with a range of different students with different personalities, cultures, values, disabilities, the list goes on and I will need to handle each and every situation with the same amount of delicacy and patience. In my decision making to become a teacher, I thought of what I needed when I was younger. Why I loved my first grade teacher, Ms. Zaboroski, so much and why she inspired me to want to teach. She made me feel loved, secure, smart, and like I could achieve anything I set my mind to. She genuinely
cared about her students. She made me look forward to going to school and I knew that if there was ever anything that I needed help with or just needed an ear or shoulder, she would be there for me without a doubt, arms wide open and no judgements. My goal as a teacher is to make my students feel somewhat the same way, just with a “Ms. Eleanoras” touch. I want my students to know they can reach for the stars and I will always be there for them for anything with no judgements whatsoever. Notice I did not mention anything about whether or not they had this or that going on in their lives or with themselves. It will not matter to me, as I will treat each and every one of them as equals. Much of what this objective was about, treating someone as person not as a thing or disorder or what have you.
It is not an easy thing to learn how each child’s mind works, especially when you only get 10 months, IF that, and have fifteen plus students. Of course every teacher wants to learn the ways of each of their students and wants each of their students to succeed. The hard thing is, figuring out a way to assure that
everyone is comprehending the material at hand and if they are not, that they feel comfortable enough to speak up or come to their teacher to ask for help. I can identify some learning disabilities here and there, I try my best to help them cope and figure out the best strategies, learning style and loopholes for
each of their unique minds.
All the applications and information I gathered from this course have helped me become a more diverse student and will help me in my classroom when I further my career as a teacher. Through my students, I hope to become an asset to my community with the intention of benefiting and improving society. Through my classroom I will allow them ample opportunities to apply and further develop how they approach situations, improve their understanding, and implement observational skills. Ultimately, teachers are a huge decisive factor on society’s rise or fall. With the help of this course, I hope to become the best teacher I can be for my students and the most vulnerable stages of their lives.
A vital component when designing a curriculum to be used in the classroom is inclusiveness. When I say the word inclusiveness, this is pertaining to the students in the classroom regardless of cognitive state, language barriers, social status and all of the different personalities. A curriculum should be designed to meet all students' needs. A curriculum should be based on goals and objectives through regular observation of the students to meet their needs, strengths and interests.
I will be teaching at a 4th or 5th grade level. Unfortunately, I did not have the best experience during these grade levels. At these young ages, a child’s mind is rapidly developing and strongly influenced by observations, and expectations they construct through experiences. I would like to provide a safe place for my students where they can blossom and reinforce them to “be the best you”.
I was able to make quite a few connections with the school observation portion of the field experience. Growing up I attended public schools, private schools, charter schools and even homeschooled my senior year. Seeing the difference between the schools’ physical aspects and what each one had to offer is something that I am familiar with. When I would change schools, adjusting to the way each school functioned was not easy at first. Now, I am thankful that I was forced to make quick adaptations because now change is not something, I fear.
I could connect with the pre-k teachers and how their classrooms operated. I worked at Kids ‘R’ Kids for 3 years and absolutely loved it. Definitely a great learning experience.
I will use a combination of teacher and student input in the process of constructing our classroom rules (notice I said our classroom as opposed to my classroom). Student generated classroom guidelines/rules
are usually along the lines of what a teacher would come up with on his/her own so why not allow the students to feel more at home and comfortable in the environment they will be spending at least 35 hours/week in. Including them in this process will help them have a better understanding and insight on what is expected in the classroom and encourage them to reinforce them.

Multicultural refers to more than just racial backgrounds, multicultural can refer to different racial, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic and linguistic backgrounds, as well as sexual orientation, gender, physical ability, different learning styles, opinions about the world around them and experiences. With all of this diversity in the classroom, some of our students tend to fall through those cracks of the educational system, thus limiting their success and opportunities in life.
Our job as teachers is to fill that gap between school culture and students’ culture, by creating interesting and relatable curriculum that will intrigue our students. By diversifying our curriculum and classroom, we will be able to both engage and challenge our students. Relatable material is retainable material. Students should view their classroom and school as a safe place where they can express their opinions and expand their educational horizons. In order to create a safe place for our students, we must adjust our tradition classroom model. When students feel more comfortable in a setting, chances are they are more willing to open up, participate, ask questions and in far, LEARN. Providing students with multicultural education will empower them and allow them an equitable chance of success in life. Multicultural education is more than just the integration of culture into our curriculum. Teachers need to consider ‘how’ their students are being taught as well as what they are being taught.
In addition to modifying lesson plans accordingly to better accommodate ALL of my students I will strive to create a classroom where the students feel comfortable and relaxed enough to open up but of course
in a controlled chaotic structure.
Perhaps, influencing them to get involved, participate and positively impact our society.
My role as a teacher is to inspire students to be their genuine selves and put their heart into everything they do. I will be the support they may not have, an ear to listen and advise if asked. I will make an immense effort to treat every one of my students equally and let their voices be heard in the classroom. I will not play the ‘rank card’ with my students, yes, they will respect me as their educator, but I will not belittle them. I will strive to create a classroom where my students feel comfortable to be themselves, ask questions, voice their opinions and make life long memories that they will reflect on when they are adults. My role is to give every one of my students an equal opportunity to learn and never make them feel like they are incapable of doing anything. With practice, effort and a mentor, they will excel academically and grow as little adults.
My role in creating an inclusive classroom that embraces the diversity of the student population as a teacher will be encouraging a safe classroom environment, adopting my students’ diversity and enhancing my students’ social skills by encouraging student to student engagement and teacher to student engagement. A healthy and comfortable learning environment can impact a student’s

willingness to learn significantly. I think that through developing a relationship with and throughout my classroom, my students will benefit by improving their social skills thus, improving classroom participation and of course have a domino effect with the end result being academic success. Through their relationships with their peers, they will learn how to interact and connect with people from diverse
backgrounds and perspectives. Additionally, I will be more than welcoming to the diverse groups and individuals that I encounter. The more culturally aware my students are, the better they will be able to adapt in different settings and future experiences.
To narrow the academic success gap in our schools, we need to ensure that our classrooms have teachers that set high expectations for all of his/her students. The effect of decling teacher expectations can significantly affect on the trajectory of some students’ learning outcomes. Educators may be unaware of the differentiating expectations they have set for their students, not being conscious of how they may negatively affect their students’ overall academic success. It is important that educators are aware of their biases and learn how to engage in teacher-student interactions that help ALL of their students be academically successful. Children become what their parents, guardians, teachers or other idol expects them to become.
I think these “Unschooling Quotes” do an excellent job of challenging what we think education really means and exploring what kind of education is needed to be indispensable in our rapidly changing world.
