I have definitely been there with this scenario. When it comes to differentiated instruction, we want to create a learning environment that allows all students, regardless of differences in learning, to have the opportunity to succeed. In this scenario, I would do a few different interventions to help my students be successful. First, I would create a word wall for the vocabulary that is included in the lessons. I would read to my students and try to facilitate classroom discussion, allowing students to hear different perspectives of the text. I would also have the students pair up and work together to pull out the concepts they are to be learning. I would also create an interactive powerpoint or edpuzzle for students to complete that allows them to answer questions as they progress through the text. As for the process of learning, I would provide handouts for those students who are ELL, and providing scaffolding if needed. I would also use auditory books for those students who are struggling to get through the text. Also, allowing the students to interact with online games/assignments that will engage the students. The learning environment is such a huge part of success for students. I would create small groups so that students would be able to discuss what they have read and help each other pull out information from the text. I will also encourage students to read individually to work on fluency and gain confidence. At all times, the classroom should be calm and respectful. Especially for students from different cultures, the welcoming environment creates an opportunity for all students to feel comfortable and able to learn. As Collier says in her article, “teachers face the challenge of finding ways to ensure the academic success of these students whose educational backgrounds, home cultures, and languages are… different from their own” (2010). It is not an easy task to adapt to every students, but it is our job to do our best and continuously learn and progress so that all students can be successful. References Collier, C. (2010).   RTI for Diverse Learners : More Than 200 Instructional Interventions . Corwin.
