EMAIL ASSIGNMENT & REFLECTION – 15%
General Instructions
1.
Please complete Part 1 and Part 2 on one Microsoft Office Word Document and copy the email rubric (from page 2) at the end of your document. 2.
Provide your name in the file name of your Word document.
3.
Upload your Word document as an attachment when you submit on Blackboard. (Please do not
turn it into a PDF as a Word document is easier for me to provide feedback on).
Part 1 Instructions – Email (Graded out of 10)
You will be graded based on the rubric on the next page.
1.
Using the situation that you chose
for the original Email and Chat GPT email
(and the planning you did in your Communication Assessment Tool Assignment), write an effective email message in a Microsoft Office Word Document. You are combining what you feel you did well with what you felt Chat GPT did well. (It should be a combination) Remember formatting for an email, so you will need to add “
To, From, Date, Subject Line, Complimentary Close
(Sincerely, Regards, etc., + your name).” Your email should be approximately 3-5 paragraphs and might also include hyperlinks, visuals, lists, charts, etc. if appropriate.
Recall the situations:
A.
Persuading a superior to purchase new company smartphones
B.
Persuading a superior to obtain new software OR hardware to solve a problem
C.
Persuading a client to accept your solution to their design problem
2.
Use the details you provided in your Communication Assessment Tool Assignment
, and the feedback you received with your grade to consider purpose, audience, context, and content to help you plan this email. Consider everything you’ve learned this semester about Organization, Design, Content, Style, and Tone. (Also watch my video in MODULE 4 about the Email Assignment.)
Part 2 Instructions – Reflection (Graded out of 5)
You will be graded on the quality of your answers
(critical thinking, professionalism, and clear, concise, specific communication).
On the same Microsoft Office Word document, after your email, answer the following questions, using short answers (1-3 thorough, yet concise sentences for each question):
1.
Look at your original Email Rough Draft and state ONE item or feature you improved in this Email assignment. Explain why it is an improvement. (Please be specific, so that I know what you are referring to. For example, you can say, “In the second paragraph,” or you can quote your own words from the emails.)
2.
State ONE item or feature that you used from Chat GPT to improve your email and explain why.
3.
What ONE thing could you have changed in your instructions to Chat GPT to have received a better version of its email?
4.
State ONE concept that you learned from this course thus far and explain how you implemented it in
1
your email.
