Culture frames our interaction with others, as it shapes our values and behaviors,
including our communication. In this discussion you will define culture and explore how it
influences our communication choices and outcomes during conflict. You must do the
following:
Define culture using the textbook.
Explain the role of culture in conflict management, focusing on the high and low
context, individualism versus collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance,
long- and short-term orientation, indulgence versus self-constraint, masculinity or
femininity, or the concept of face. Be sure to explain the concept you selected.
Share a specific conflict scenario and identify the ways culture shaped how you
handled (or could have handled) the conflict.
Describe the ways one or more of the cultural elements you addressed has
impacted the ways you communicated during the conflict. Think about your
nonverbal behavior (e.g., tone of voice or physical distance between parties) and
verbal behavior (e.g., word choices and grammatical style).
Your initial post must be 300 to 350 words in length. Support your claims with
information from the Jandt and one other scholarly resource. We recommend using
something from the
Recommended Resources
list or find a scholarly article on your own
in the UAGC Library. For advice on how to do this, review the table
