Over the past two years, my persuasive writing skills have remained stagnant and have not grown
much since I graduated from high school. The coursework of my chemical engineering classes has
focused more on technical writing to convey data and facts to evaluate a hypothesis rather than to
persuade a reader to think differently. However, I recognize that persuasive writing has a place in
my education, and I am eager to grow my abilities over the course of the semester. In this self–
assessment, I will talk about the skills I want to develop and the strategies I will use along the way.
Taking the self–assessment quiz made me realize how out of practice I have become in writing non–
technical papers. The first and most important thing that I

My first drafts are often very cluttered and require a lot of work to shift the pieces around into an
order that makes sense and has a natural flow to it. Additionally, if I do not have any direct quotes or
sources that I really want to use, I will often write around those sections in my paragraphs requiring
me to come back and insert these sources in a later stage of the writing process. Sometimes I cannot
find anything good to fit in so the quote can feel forced at times. Also, this addition requires a
possible rework of the paragraph to make sure that I am not being redundant or self–contradicting
elsewhere in my writing. Identifying these areas of weakness allows for the development of a more
focused and effective strategy to improve them. In order to address my weakness in writing
persuasive appeals is to put the practice and time into crafting them. I am not going to get better
overnight at this skill, so therefore I will need to be meticulous as I hone this skill. I will not allow
myself to settle for good enough with my appeals but will instead keep writing into I develop
something that is actually worthwhile. I plan to use the methods mentioned on a website I found to
improve my persuasive writing and help get my points across. Regarding my body paragraph
structure, I plan to make creating an outline a bona fide part of my writing

The specific informative speech strategy can assist with enhancing my persuasive speech because it
can help create a sense of understanding towards my beliefs, and it may also provide people the
necessary information to convert. There is no rule that states that I cannot borrow some strategies
from one type of speech for the other. When it goes for my persuasive speech, I can use some of the
tips that are for informative speeches to express my ideals in a clear and easy–to–understand manner
and present the facts in a way which proves my thesis of a certain topic. Some of the strategies
include: grabbing the attention within the introduction, compare your ideas with the audience
, and
use emotional examples for your speech. As for the introduction,

John F. Kennedy once said, "I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic
Party's candidate for President, who happens also to be a Catholic." In this single sentence, he uses a
method of Aristotle's persuasive speech making. One of the greatest examples of using rhetorical
strategies is indeed John F. Kennedy
's inaugural address of 1961. John F. Kennedy uses diction,
syntax, and Aristotle's method of persuasion in his inaugural address that not only made it uniquely
his own, but made it undoubtedly one of the best, emotion tugging, speeches ever.
It was a very cold, icy January day when John F. Kennedy made his inaugural address. He was the
youngest president to ever take office. He won by a very small margin. He was

For example, "the jungle of suspicion" and "those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of
the tiger, ended up inside." Both of these can paint a picture in the listener's (or reader's) head, and
can help them understand what JFK is referring to in his speech. Sometimes President Kennedy uses
words that seem old fashioned. He does this because he is the youngest president, and he tries to
appeal to the older people to show them he is as mature as any other person who could have been
elected president. Syntax helped Kennedy achieve his purpose as well. He used short paragraphs to
get his point across. For example "And, so my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do
for you – ask what you can do for your country." Think of how famous this quote has become! The
short sentences make more of an impression. They express more emotion. Complex sentences are
also used in this speech. They allow feelings to be built up in sentences. He uses opposites in this
speech a lot. For instance, "Never let us negotiate out of fear. But let us ever fear to negotiate." This
shows he has considered all counterarguments and knows exactly what he wants to achieve while in
office and that he is as qualified as any other politician to be the next president of the United States
.
Aristotle's rhetorical strategies can help a writer achieve the art of persuasion. John F. Kennedy's
inaugural speech is a perfect example of this. In

Persuasive Communication
I took Persuasive Communication: 2367 with the only intention of fulfilling my writing and related
skills GE. I had no idea how much I would learn or how much I would enjoy the class. Throughout
the course we covered many topics regarding persuasion and persuasive communication. One of the
topics I really enjoyed was the history of persuasion. While persuasion has been around since the
beginning of human existence, the Greeks spearheaded the study of persuasion (Adams, 2017). The
Sophists were a group of scholars that were concerned with how to win an argument. They taught
manipulation, entrapping opponents, using intimidating language, and logic and reasoning. While
the Sophists believed that learning these skills were essential to training people to be good citizens,
others believed that their teachings were immoral. Plato taught that the ideal speaker is moral and
truthful, and his purpose should be to better the audience, not flatter of take advantage of them
(Which is why he hated the Sophists). Aristotle believed persuasion was more of a combination of
these theories. He believed that to have a compelling argument, three components were necessary:
ethos, pathos, and logos. This is when persuasion clicked for me. Persuasion became a formula–
creating strategies to persuade audiences became easier and I was better able to recognize persuasive
appeals aimed at me in my day to day life. Another topic I found interesting was the classification of
audiences. We learned in

any other ways to get what they want. 9. Don't let the difficult person get to you or give them the
power to make you feel bad, upset or angry. Don't lose sleep over chronically difficult people. Some
people are just plain difficult and there's nothing we can do about it. When faced with a persistently
difficult person it helps to remember: some people bring joy wherever they go, others bring joy
whenever they go.

Persuasive Strategies For Selling Your House
If you are reading this, probably you are one of the homeowners who is having a hard time in selling
a property in Brooklyn.
Everybody knows that there are a lot of inventories on the market right now. And you will have to
compete against foreclosures out there, which are heavily discounted.
If your property is located in Brooklyn NY, especially in Bed–Stuy (Bedford Stuyvesant) or
Bushwick areas, whose Zip Codes are 11212, 11213,11216,11233, 11238, 11206, 11221 and 11237,
you must have been definitely having a tough time, since foreclosure rates are much higher than that
of the rest of Brooklyn.
But still, even in this downturn market, you can sell your house fairly quickly.
First of all, there are basically 3 methods in which you can
...show more content...
Real estate agents are familiar with all the above and they can handle them for you. Their experience
can impact the sale.
In order to save $30,000 in commission, would you hire an attorney, a title company, and an
insurance company by yourself to make a deal happen? Are you really a good negotiator to ask for
an offer? If you are NOT that kind of person, things would be very tough for you.
2) Hiring a real estate agent (Realtor)
Pros for hiring a Realtor are already covered the above. Cons are that in this competitive market for
the sellers, agents may not able to help you sell fast. Most agents are taught only very conventional
ways of marketing homes. Putting your property on MLS (Multiple Listing Service) and put up a
"For Sale" sign in the yard, and maybe do some advertisement in newspapers. But that's about it.
And the next step is just wait and wait and wait... Because of the terrible economy, where the
demand for homes has subsided, you shouldn't be surprised if it takes 6 – 8 months to have your
home sold through an agent.
Therefore, you really have to hire an experienced real estate agent who has closed on at least 20–30
properties a year. You can get a real estate agent's license in 4 days. Having the license doesn't mean
he or she is an expert in selling a house. The truth is only 5–10 percent of the agents know what they
really doing. You should be careful in choosing who to

Persuasive Speech On Autism
To eliminate bias and hatred against autistic or differently abled children and individuals, it is
important to educate the masses about the endless possibilities autistic people are born with.
To address the perpetual need for widespread public awareness and core education on various
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), it is important to provide the normally–born people with
training and education to help them support individuals born with an ASD and how not to treat
them.
What is Autism

By helping other professionals and families to adapt and evolve their understanding of ASD, you

in this field. Inspire the people around you for positive change.
Since you gain a thorough understanding of ASD, you can help an ASD patient stuck in trauma with
smart communication, soft skill coercing and calming down their anxiety.
By formulating your own intervention techniques and strategies, you can prevent any incidents that
involve any ASD patient, and in turn save them from further emotional trauma.
Not only do you calm their interfering behavior in a school/ workplace setting, but will help you
understand the positive and functional approaches to understanding their behavior by analyzing a
behavior chain and conducting a Functional Behavior Assessment.
You help the society in general with the development and implementation of a successful behavior
intervention plan to understand replacement behavior

Rhetorical Strategies Persuasive Essay
The main points in chapter 3 section 3.1 and 3.2 was how rhetorical strategies make messages
persuasive. Messages persuade through their angle of vision. The angle of vision causes a reader to
see a subject from one perspective only–the writer's. Writers create an angle of vision through
strategies such as the following: stating point of view directly, selecting some details while omitting
others, choosing words or figures of speech with intended connotations, and creating emphasis or
de–emphasis through sentence structure and organization. The angle of vision or the lens is
persuasive because it controls what the reader sees. Unless readers are rhetorically savy, they can
lose awareness that they are seeing the writer's subject matter through a lens that both reveals and
conceals. Writer's use angle of vision to look at the subject from a certain location, or to use another
metaphor, the writer wears a lens that colors or filters the topic in a certain way. The angle of vision,
lens, or filter determines what part of a topic gets seen and what remains unseen, what gets included
or excluded, and what gets emphasized or de–emphasized.

Persuasive Essay On Autism
Autism. To some people it can be just a word, or a disorder. What Autism means to me, is being able
to be closer to my little brother. My 7 year old brother has Autism and that doesn't define him as a
human being, his capabilities defines who he is. He is the reason why I am where I am today, a
paraeducator that thrives to help kids in need. Being a paraeducator, our job is to help our students
become more independent to prepare them for the real world after school. In order to get a student to
be an independent person, is to use strategies. A few strategies I would use is how to properly use
fidgets, what the social norm is and ways to improve, and the four questions for a structured task.
Fidgets are a great way to keep children calm and collected, but in order for them to work, there
needs to be expectations. For me as an adult, I can get a little antsy if I sit for a long period of time
to what do I do? I just grab my phone out and mess around on it. In a school setting that cannot
happen. Some different alternatives could be a stress ball, fidget cube, bag of marbles, or tangles,
etc. Some expectations for the fidgets can be: keep it somewhere where it won't be a distraction, use
it nicely and properly, and if it gets in the way of work, then it gets taken away. If expectations get
set, fidgets can be a great way to keep your student focused and not get over stimulated while
getting their work done. In today's world, we are lacking in social skills, as the technology increases,
our social skills decrease. As our children grow up and develop, so does the technology, the kids get
stuck behind those screens and tend to forget there are people on the other side of them and that they
have feelings. One huge area kids and even adults need to work on is eye contact. When I was in
grade school my teachers would say look at their nose or look above their head. Eye gaze would be
a great idea to use with children that do not like making direct eye contact. With eye gazing, the
child looks in the general direct of where the person they are talking to is looking at. For example, if
the other person is looking at a flag, the child would have to see where the person eyes are pointing
to, use that person's body to

Attention Getting Strategies Essay
The strategy that I can use in my persuasive speech to get my audience's attention in the introduction
of my speech would be story telling. I have included this already by giving an example of a student
who made Dean's list 8 of 10 semesters. The semesters I didn't make Dean's list was my first two. I
went on to tell the audience how I work nonstop to get the best grades I can and my family and
social like is affected. After giving the audience some background I then tell them how I feel as
though I am being discriminated on based upon personal feelings from the instructor. I am hopeful
by telling them my story they will see how this type of discrimination can happen to anyone.
Connecting with my audience from the very beginning gives me a chance to convince them to see
the remainder of my speech from my point of view.
Attention Getting Strategies
Strategy: Relate Topic to Audience – Include a topic that affects the audience directly.
Apply to my Speech: Mention different scenarios that discrimination can take place on college
campuses. Use examples of academic, racial, sexual, and age to try to include everyone in the
audience.
Strategy: State the Importance of My Topic – Convince the audience that your topic is as important
as your do.
Apply to my Speech: Give the audience examples of why discrimination on college campuses is so
important. Ex. You could work hard all semester and have a teacher fail you on their personal
beliefs.
Strategy: Startle the Audience –

Persuasive Communication and
Effective Negotiations
Introduction
In business the most vital skill is communication. In a setting where ideas are the business, it is
imperative to be able to communicate those ideas effectively. The most important part of
communication is the persuasive message. Communication is defined as a process by which we give
and express meaning in an effort to create shared understanding. This process requires a huge range
of skills in intrapersonal and interpersonal processing, speaking, listening, questioning, analyzing,
observing, and evaluating[1]. Use of these processes is developmental and transfers to all areas of
life: home, school, community, work, and beyond. It is through communication that

Before people buy into a suggestion they want to see that the persuader is flexible enough to
respond to their concerns. Compromises can often become better, more sustainable, shared
solutions.
3. Thinking the secret of persuasion lies in presenting great arguments. Great arguments matter, but
they are only one part. Other factors matter just as much, such as credibility and their ability to
create an equally beneficial position for themselves and their audience, (a win win situation), to
connect on the correct emotional level and to communicate through words that makes arguments
come alive.
4. Assuming persuasion is a one–time effort. Persuasion is a process. Common solutions are rarely
reached on the first try.
Effective Negotiations
Effective negotiations are a method of working a compromise or agreement in which the parties to
the negotiations try to achieve their goals in reasonable and practical manner through the process of
give and take using effective communication.
Negotiation is a central activity of our lives. Knowingly or unknowingly we negotiate every day,

with our colleagues, and bosses, family members, friends, strangers, and some times even with our–
selves. We use negotiation to realize our expectations, to achieve goals, work out a problem or
simply to avoid trouble. Sometimes we negotiate to assist others in resolving their problems.
Negotiation is a problem solving

Persuasive Essay About Career Choice
Making a career choice can be very difficult because there are so many careers out there in the
world to choose from. It could be really hard choosing which one would be right for you because as
a person you don't want to have a career that you dislike or don't live up to your standards as a
person. There are many different factors and ways that could really help you choose the best job for
yourself you should always want a job that you would like. Because if are happy with your job your
most likely going work more harder and earn more money this could equal to a happy life and also
can cause a stress free life when this happens you could have a healthy lifestyle.
When starting to choose for your career the first thing you want to do is start thinking of what your
interests are when looking for a career because knowing what you like can help eliminate jobs that
you wouldn't choose like for example if you're more of a hands on person you wouldn't want a job
just sitting down doing paper work all day you would most likely want to do something more
physical like work on machines, mechanic, or be an athlete that would be very good for a hands on
person. Another interest is if you're a thinker you would want a job that that use a lot of brain
thinking this could be a lead to being good ar math or analyzing data because jobs like that use a lot
of mind thinking. Or you could be artistic person if you have a creative mind you might want be an
artist, actor or a musical person

Rhetorical Analysis
In order to create a persuasive essay, the author must take into consideration the following points:
the audience attitude, the organization of the speech and the appropriate use of the ethical
guidelines. The audience attitude towards a topic is very important, given that is the general feeling
about the issue or person; according to the book Speak, people express their attitudes when they
give their opinions. However, there are different type of audiences such as: opposed, no opinion and
in favor. When the audience has an opposed posture, the speaker is seeking for an incremental
change. In other words, he/she begins with a small change in order to make the listeners to move
into the orator's direction. The second category of audience is the no opinion, that is to say they are
neutral, apathetic or uninformed with the topic. If the audience is apathetic, this means they are
uninterested or indifferent; the orator's goal is to show how the topic relates with the audience.
When the audience is does not know enough about the topic

The next thing to consider is the preposition. A preposition is a declarative sentence that identifies
the orator's position. There are three types of prepositions such as: proposition of fact, proposition of
value and proposition of policy. In the following paragraph, the three classifications will be
explained. The proposition of fact has the goal to convince the audience about three different things,
the first one is that it did or did not probably occur or exist; the second one is that probably is or not
true; and the third one is that it will or will not probably occur. The proposition of value is used to
convince the audience that something has more value than something else. The proposition of policy
is used to convince the audience about a particular action; uses words such as "should/shouldn't" or
"do/don't" or "mus/must

Persuasive Techniques Used in Poetry Essay
Persuasive Techniques Used in Poetry
Compare the persuasive techniques used in the poems. Say which poems you feel are the most
effective and Why?
Persuading poets have been writing poems on love, lust and nature since the beginning of time. The
7 poems that are analysed here range from the 16th–19th centuries.
These poems are all written by men arguing and persuading the effects of love.
In "To virgins", it appears that Robert Herrick uses small amounts of natural imagery to persuade
virgins and to stress the fast passing of time. He begins with a time threatening statement urging the
virgins to
"gather ye rosebuds while ye may" he then adds
"This same flower that smiled today tomorrow will be dying".
These

He ends the fourth stanza with a negative mood by using "you may forever tarry".
This phrase means that for the rest of your life you will suffer with loneliness if you don't follow his
commands.
Herrick's poem is in an ordered structure and has an alternate rhyming rhythm that makes the poem
more commanding. The lack of imagery in this poem gives it a more uneasy and blunt mood. The
pace of the rhythm in this poem is quick which links in with the expressing of fast time and adds to
the effect of a threatening poem.
This poem suggests to me that maybe he is desperate so he uses the persuasion accordingly.
This poem compares well to "Of Beauty" by Richard Fanshawe because both of the poems are in an
ordering mood and have a positive and negative part of the stanza's.
It also compares well to" To his coy mistress" by Andrew Marvell. Both of the poems are arguing

that time is running out so let me love you now while we have the time. They both use a lot of time
statements such as 'long loves day', nearer he's to setting' and 'ten years before'. The second poem,
"Of Beauty" by Richard Fanshawe, is a short, one stanza poem. It uses personification during the
middle of the stanza.
"Earth her winter coat may cast, and renew her beauty past".
These uses of personification are to state that winter is a person and her beauty runs out so and so
will yours.
"Earth her winter coat may cast".
The imagery that is used in Of Beauty is

Persuasive Approach to Communication
What different persuasive approaches would you use on the following audiences: a boss, a peer, a
challenging person, and an open–minded person? Why would your approach differ with each. (275
words)
Each of the audiences of boss, peer, challenging person and open–minded person require
significantly different communication strategies. With each, advanced planning and organization of
the persuasive message, from the informal to the highly structured, are essential if the persuasive
communication strategies are going to succeed. Each of the four audiences will require elements of
reciprocation, commitment and consistency, social proof or validation of the action or strategy,
authority, liking and scarcity (Cialdini, 1985). To persuade a boss, the persuasive communication
needs to be heavily based on empirical data, authority, social proof and scarcity. These elements
taken together will make an authority figure first see the communication as persuasive and also be
motivated to take action quickly. To convince a peer, the priorities of reciprocation, commitment and
consistency and liking all are essential for success of a persuasive communication as these factors
have been shown to create trust over time (Areni, Sparks, 2005). A challenging person will be most
persuaded by social proof, authority and scarcity(Cialdini, 1985) in addition to the credibility of a
data–intensive argument in favor of the specific persuasive communication (Areni, Sparks, 2005).
For the open–minded

Persuasive Strategies
The persuasive strategies talked about could all be used if I were salesman trying to sell a car. I
would start by getting a better understanding as to why the customer is searching for a new car and
based off their likes, dislikes and preferences I would show them cars that fit their wants and/or
needs. My next step would be to apply the persuasive strategy logos, by stating some facts and
statistics about the vehicle. Gas mileage, environmentally friendly as far as omission levels,
warranties, pricing, etc
....
This strategy would also help me began tapping into appeal to safety
needs because I'd be stating the safety measures that the vehicle possess by affirming some awards
and rankings the car has won when it comes to safety. From this point

Persuasive Informative Essay
Just the right splash of color of paint can help you get more money for your home, however,
thousands of colors to choose from can be overwhelming. On the other hand, what if the color
swatches were not organized by the brand of paint along with the paint colors not flowing together
to see the different shading of reds, blues, yellows, etc.? What if we only knew words from
elementary and we had intelligent people using strong words that we have never heard of before?
Organization is an important element for life. Without it, life would be a crazy unorganized mess.
For example, when explaining how making a quilt you would not start on the sewing machine, you
would start by picking out the material you would want to make the quilt out of along with the
pattern you want the quilt to look like. It is starting from the beginning and working your way to the
end. Therefore, you will understand how to make a quilt by doing it in spatial order.
It is important when giving a speech for it to be organized and easily understood. For one, it will
make your speech go smoother, second, people will understand you better and third it builds trust. If
you are going to inform or persuade your audience that you do not have to go out of the country to
see clear blue ocean water. Organize your thoughts to make them believe that you can be in paradise
staying in the United States. For example, I have gone to Panama beach located in Florida and the
crystal blue water is comparable to a swimming

Persuasive Techniques Essay
The Effectiveness of Persuasive Techniques No advertisement is the same, especially since there is
so much competition between companies to sell their products. Many advertisements may seem
simple at first glance, but most of them contain complex persuasion techniques. Some of these
techniques include pathos, ethos, and logos, and they are included in almost every advertisement.
Just using one of these techniques might not always be effective, so it's important to try to include
all three. A great example of this is the snickers advertisement including Mr. T. At first glance of the
ad, the celebrity, Mr. T, telling you to "get some nuts", which is ethos, but that isn't the only
persuasive device included in this ad. The use of ethos in an advertisement really catches the
reader's attention, it also makes the reader feel like if they used that product they would get the
approval from that celebrity. That is exactly

Snickers uses pathos by making the reader feel scared and intimidated by Mr. T if they do not
purchase a snickers. They achieve this by putting a scary figure as the center of attention on the ad,
they also have him point at the reader and make an angry face making them feel afraid if they don't
buy a Snickers. This combination of ethos and pathos is very effective in persuading the readers of
this advertisement to buy the product this company is selling. The only other persuasive device in
this advertisement is logos. Logos is used by making the reader feel like it is only logical to eat a
snickers because Mr. T is eating one. Also in the advertisement Mr. T has a necklace that says "get
some nuts", and if he got a necklace saying to get some Snickers, then they must be good. Without
the use of this device, the reader would know that Mr. T endorses this product, but they wouldn't
know if he actually liked the product or

Persuasive Speech : Effective Communication
In writing it's important to have an understanding of what you're trying to convey for your audience
in addition to how you you will present your ideas. Effective communication extends beyond having
well organized writing expressed in complete and coherent sentences. The style, tone and clarity of
writing must also be considered, as they are constantly changing relative to the audience. Again,
analyzing one's audience and purpose is essential to successful writing. Appropriately, when
choosing the most effective language, it is important to consider the document objective as well as
the reader. In essence, this idea of effective use of language has been the overarching theme of this
online English course. Each writing assignment

Thus, the style of language used within the text was often industry specific and possessed a more
academic feeling. For example, in the text I often used abbreviations and slang acceptable within the
discourse such as, SCM Supply chain management
, KPI Key performance indicator, and RDT
Resource dependence. The word choice in this assignment is indicative of that fact that language is
chosen in a manner that is appropriate for both the audience and the purpose of the writing.
Furthermore, perhaps the greatest contrast and the most evident of how language works differently
in various types of writing is the discussion blog post. The blog post allowed the class to engage in
different types of formality of language. The formality of the language one uses should match the
formality of the situation and the relationship between the writer and reader. Therefore, as the public
audience was a class of online students taking a required writing course in the summer, the formality
of my writing has often been very informal. For example, in my blog post addressing my concern
over the unworthy power of Beyoncé I wrote, "It was the year 2008 when the world was blessed
with the images of Beyoncé (unapologetically) dancing around in a leotard. Not only is Beyoncé's
single lady video one of her most notable hits it begins her what is now a decade long relationship
ending spree" (Marquis, 2016 ). The formality
