Case Study - Personal Experience
•
Hearing Impairment: Mr. Johnson had significant hearing loss, which made it challenging for him to follow conversations.
•
Cognitive Changes: He occasionally experienced memory lapses, which sometimes led to confusion during our discussions.
To address these challenges, I applied the communication skills and resources we've discussed:
•
Active Listening: I made an effort to speak clearly and loudly enough for him to hear. I also maintained eye contact to show that I was actively engaged in our conversations.
•
Empathy: I took the time to listen to his stories and concerns, showing understanding and compassion for his experiences.
•
Assistive Devices: I encouraged Mr. Johnson to use a hearing aid, which significantly improved his ability to participate in conversations. (Belkacem et al., 2020).
•
In conclusion, effective communication is key to developing lasting relationships with senior citizens.
•
Understanding senior needs, overcoming communication challenges, and essential skills have all been covered. •
Their problems can be solved through active listening, empathy, patience, and clarity. •
Seniors' communication and general well-being can be improved by utilizing technology, neighborhood initiatives, and assistive devices.
