Persuasive Speech Essay Okay, this is going to sound really cheesy and you probably won't agree with it but still please read it. This afternoon, I had a 2km race and I ran really well, close to my PB but with 500m to go, these people were walking by (It was at Stuart Park) and started swearing at me and the people around me and yelling at us about why we would do such a thing as running (to put lightly) and that only crazy people would do it. (To put even more lightly) and it kinda reminded me of you guys and how you don't like running and think I' weird for doing it. I know you aren't mean about it but I'm still just going to tell you why I like to run. Firstly, when you are out on the road alone, especially when it is raining or at night, you feel like you are so strong, that everyone else is sitting inside doing nothing and you are the only person actually pushing your body. When you train, it hurts, but when you finish, you feel so good because you know you are getting stronger and you are so proud because you know your body complained and told you to stop but you kept on going and you fought yourself. It is true that you yourself are your worst enemy. Secondly, in a race, you feel so nervous before and you live every moment. At nationals I was so nervous. I got to the stage when I would have preferred to die than run. I was scared of what people would say to me if I failed, if I didn't do as well as everybody expected me too, I was afraid of the pain because I knew I was expected to push myself so hard to at least a vomiting stage. I was so nervous because of the way I had trained. That whole year, I had trained nearly everyday, pushing myself so hard all the time and ran competitions vomiting in most, all for this moment, everything counted on this single race. And I was nervous I would stuff it up. Like I think I've mentioned before, for a whole 2 years, almost every time I ran, I would finish and half an hour later i would get a migraine that would last for at least 2 hours. You know how much I train and I was getting this nearly every time. It sucks knowing that before a run, you are going to kill yourself and feel even worse when you finish. Persuasive Speech Essay For this assignment, I reviewed Ivan Coyote's persuasive speech, "Why We Need Gender Neutral Bathrooms," In this speech, Ivan told the audience that he was transgender and had a difficult time using public restrooms. The reason being was due to the fact that Ivan was not a woman, and not a man. Ivan used a lot of different persuasive techniques to get the point across that there should be gender neutral restrooms in every public space and outlet. One of the impactful parts of this speech was the use of introducing personal stories. This utilizes the term "logos" which means evidence and reasoning. It is very difficult to open up and talk about past experiences that have heavily impacted you in some way. Doing it publicly, or a greater cause and with a goal of bringing awareness is completely different. Ivan was able to go to TED and discuss his/her story to the public, while also knowing it would be taped and posted to the media forever. This was a very commendable and brave thing for this speaker to do. It was heartbreaking when Ivan mentioned stories of attempting to do a simple human everyday task, go to the restroom. Ivan talks about being glared at, being talked about, yelled at, physically assaulted, and plain dragged out of the restroom by security guards while still pulling his/her pants up. Persuasive Speech Essay In America today, HIV has token the lives of multiple individuals. The public health system and government are hindering research, care, sex education, drugs and HIV awareness to the public, which is causing the demise of humanity due to this deadly disease. Elizabeth Pisani, an independent researcher and analyst of the Ted talk, Sex, drugs and HIV –let's get rational is a fearlessly outspoken women trying to educate the public on the world–wide failure to understand and manage the reality of HIV epidemic, decrying the difficult roles that revenue, votes, and social media play in the public health organization. Pisani became an assumption busting independent researcher, polling transgendered sex workers, drug addicts and others to illuminate the surprising, and often ignored demographics that belie traditional studies. In this Ted talk, Pisani uses logos, pathos, and ethos on her audience to get the point across on the spread prevention of HIV.
