HLTPAT006 - AT2 Observation STUDENT INSTRUCTION You will be observed by your assessor in a simulated environment performing a task to the required standard as outlined in the appropriate unit of competency. This will involve the use of a role play or case study to establish the context for assessment and this specific information will be provided by your assessor prior to the assessment taking place. It is important ensure you read and understand all observable criteria for the associated demonstration including role plays or scenarios on which you will be observed. If any point is unclear please seek clarification from your Assessor. Please ensure you are familiar with the key criteria your assessor will be looking for during the assessment process. Assessment Conditions The below Observation Assessments will be undertaken in a Simulated Pathology Collection Centre . Please refer to Learner and Assessment Guide for a full list of Resources provided. These Assessments will be completed during class time and your Assessor will provide the required PPE prior to the assessment taking place. Each Assessment will take approximately 5 - 10 minutes and your Assessor will ensure you are aware of the Assessment time prior. There may be occasions when the proposed assessment date is altered based on the number of students in a group. Your assessor will coordinate this for you. You will be provided with the below equipment as required to undertake the Assessment task. pipettes aliquot pots personal protective equipment (PPE) contaminated waste disposal fridge dryer temperature controls HLTPAT006 - AT2 Observations - Specimen 1 UNIT/S OF COMPETENCY Title Student Name Student Number Student Signature Assessment Date Assessment Location Assessment Time Description of the task to be observed: Task: At the end of this practical the student is expected to successfully demonstrate the correct Aliquoting procedure as demonstrated in class. Specimen 1: You are required to aliquot a sample from an SST/GEL tube for transportation.
HLTPAT006 - AT2 Observation Though very few SST tubes require you to spin and aliquot, this observation demonstrates your understanding of requirements associated with aliquoting. In this scenario there are no specific transport requirements During the activity, the student is required to satisfactorily demonstrate required skills though completion of the observable task/s. Observable Task Assessment Criteria MR FER O1.1 Handling of the specimen Ensure specimen is fully clotted. Ensure correct balancing of centrifuge Ensure centrifuge is set for correct speed/time O1.2 Safety Demonstrate correct usage of safety equipment Demonstrate correct labelling of aliquot tube Demonstrate correct and safe aliquoting of specimen O1.3 Recording Equipment is disposed of in a safe manner Prepare specimen for transport appropriate to the above test requested. Read and record the specimen fridge mean daily max: mean daily min: current temp: Q4 What is the minimum time for an SST to allow to clot? Q5 a What speed (RPM) is a centrifuge set at? Q5b What time (min) will a centrifuge run for? Q6. What minimum PPE is required when completing this procedure? Q7 Apart from minimal labelling requirements, what other information is necessary for this aliquot tube
