Report
Acid Based Titration Date submitted: 11-29-2022 By: Ali Khelil (101258560) Lab section: A6 Group: E TA: Michael Land Purpose: To determine and look at an acid-base titration curve theoretically and experimentally, and to use an acid base titration to measure the effectiveness of antacid tablets. Data: Table 1.0: Mass of the graduated cylinder with and without Materials being weighed. Mass Mass of graduated cylinder before adding Antacid Tablets Mass of graduated cylinder after adding Antacid Tablets Table 2.0: pH, and colour indicator of titration as X amount of NaOH gets added into the beaker Initial Volume (±0.05mL) Final Volume (±0.05mL) Volume added pH Colour of indicator
Table 3.0: pH, and colour indicator of titration as X amount of HCl gets added into the beaker Initial Volume (±0.05mL) Final Volume (±0.05mL) Volume added pH Colour of indicator Observations: Strong base goes from transparent/colourless to light pink/pink Antacid solution starts off white and opaque Antacid solution ends up becoming translucent and white
SDS information: Hydrochloric Acid Hazards o Flammable: Highly flammable liquid and vapour. o Corrosive to metals: may burn through metals. o Inhalation: harmful to inhale. o Skin Corrosion/irritation: can burn skin or cause irritation. o Serious eye damage/eye irritation: Causes serious eye irritation. o Target organ: May cause drowsiness or dizziness. First aid Procedures: o inhalation: Remove the victim into fresh air. Sit them in a comfortable position for breathing. Do not do mouth to mouth. Do artificial respiration using a pocket mask equipped with a proper respiratory medical device if needed. Immediate medical attention is required. o skin contact: Remove clothing immediately. Wash off immediately with a lot of water. Wash clothing before reuse. Immediate medical attention is required. o Eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Remove contact lenses, if you wear them and easy to do. Immediate medical attention is required. o Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician or Poison Control Center immediately. o Spills: Absorb spillage to prevent material damage. Hydrochloric Acid Hazards o Inhalation: harmful to inhale. o Skin Corrosion/irritation: can burn skin or cause irritation. o Serious eye damage/eye irritation: Causes serious eye irritation. First aid Procedures: o inhalation: If not breathing give artificial respiration. Remove from exposure and lie the victim down. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim ingested or inhaled the substance.

If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Consult a physician. o skin contact: Wash off with soap and plenty of water. Take victim to hospital immediately. Consult a physician. o Eye contact: Flush eyes with water for a precaution. Seek medical attention immediately. Consult a physician. o Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water. Seek medical attention immediately. Phenolphthalein Hazards o Inhalation: harmful if inhaled/may cause respiratory tract irritation o Skin: may be harmful if absorbed through skin/skin irritation. o Eyes: irritating/damaging o Ingestion: toxic if swallowed. First aid Procedures: o General advice: Consult a physician Show a safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance o inhalation: If breathed in, move person into fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention. o skin contact: Wash off with lots of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention (hospital)
