Chapter ST.5, Problem 7RQ
Summary Introduction

To determine: The details about Golden Rice 2 and its creation

Introduction: Golden rice is a variety of rice made to synthesize beta-carotene (a precursor of vitamin A) in the endosperm of the rice grain. The first variety of Golden Rice was made from cloned genes of daffodil plant and bacterium Erwinia uredovora. The genes phytoene synthase (psy) from the plant and carotene desaturase (crtI) from the bacterium was introduced into the rice plants. The plants produced containing the introduced genes had yellow color due to the presence of beta-carotene.
