Explanation of Solution

Given information:

Difference of three times a number and a second number is 2

Sum of two numbers is 14.

Calculation:

Let first number be x

Let second number be y

According to question system of equation is

  $3x-y=2\mathrm{...........}(1)$

  $x+y=14\mathrm{...........}(2)$

From equation (1) Substituting $y=3x-2$in the equation (2)

  $x+3x-2=14$

So,

  $4x=16$

On solving,

  $x=4$

Substituting $x=4$ in the equation (2)

  $4+y=14$

So,

  $y=10$

Hence, first number is 4 and second number is 10.
