• Electrolytes can be further classified as strong electrolytes or weak electrolytes.

• For a strong electrolyte there is 100 % dissociation of the solute into ions but for a weak electrolyte the dissociation is not 100 %. A weak electrolyte is a compound that dissolves in water mostly as molecules, only a few molecules of the dissolved solute undergo dissociation and produce a small number of ions in solution.
