Introduction:
Human movement is carried out by the musculoskeletal system. There are essential structures like bones, muscles, and ligaments in the human body that work to produce a human movement.
A lever is a firm bar that revolves around a fixed point or fulcrum. The lever has three parts, fulcrum (axis), force (effort), and resistance (load).
The human body parts function similar to the parts of the lever. The axis of the lever represents the joints in the human body. The lever arm represents the bones. The force of the lever is similar to the region where the muscle is attached. The resistance of the lever is the force exerted to overcome the weight. Effort arm is the portion of the lever that starts from the fulcrum to the point of effort, whereas resistance arm starts from the fulcrum to the point of resistance.

- What is an example of multiple lever types in the body during the same movement?arrow_forwardConsider only the effect of the brachioradialis muscle for these questions: If a weight is held in the hand and the forearm is flexed, whattype of lever system is in action? If the weight is placed on the forearm? Which system can lift more weight, and how far?arrow_forwardWhich of the following terms would be used in the name of a muscle that moves the leg away from the body?a. flexorb. adductorc. extensord. abductorarrow_forward
- Which of the three lever systems involved in muscle mechanics would be the fastest lever—first-, second-, or third-class?arrow_forwardWhy is it incorrect to talk about ‘flexing a muscle’?arrow_forwardAs we begin to learn about muscles, how does the "design" of the different muscles types help with their function? (ie. what kind of control do we have of each type [smooth, cardiac, and skeletal] and how that effects the role of that type of muscle).arrow_forward
- Explain how a muscle’s location allows you to determine the movements made possible by this muscle. Include solid examples.arrow_forwardTake a screenshot of the muscle or bone required for the said movement.
