Your forehead can withstand a force of about 6.0 kN before fracturing, while your cheekbone can withstand about 1.3 kN. If a 140 g baseball strikes your forehead at 25 m/s and stops in 1.7 ms, are you in danger of experiencing a fracture? What about if the ball hits your cheek instead?
Use g = 10 m/s/s in the following problems.
A). A 250 gram meter stick has a center of mass at the 50 cm mark. You place a pivot at the 50 cm mark and hang 100 grams at the 40 cm mark. How much mass must you hang at the 90 cm mark to balance the system?
B). A 250 gram meter stick
has a center of mass at the 50 cm mark. You place a pivot at the 50 cm mark, hang 100 grams at the 40 cm mark and hang 200 grams at the 30 cm mark. How much mass must you hang at the 90 cm mark to balance the system?
There is a 32cm tall ramp on a table that is 45cm tall. The ramp has an incline of 42° to the horizontal. If you place a 521kg block at the end of the ramp, and then release another block that has a mass of 782kg from rest from the top of the ramp and the ramp exerts 2.5N of friction. The block also stick together after colliding and they fall off the table immediately after colliding. What is the blocks speed just after colliding and how far from the table do they land?
