Chapter 9, Problem 41SA
Summary Introduction
To review:
The enzymes involved in affecting the regulation of the citric cycle, but present outside the cycle.
Introduction:
In living aerobic organisms, some biochemical reactions occur in a series in order to release the energy stored in 2-carbon acetyl, that is, acetyl-CoA in a cyclic manner, which is termed as the citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle). This cycle occurs in the matrix region of the mitochondria in a living cell. Acetyl-CoA is formed from pyruvate by the process of glycolysis and by the catabolism of fatty acids. The first compound formed in this cycle is a 3-carbon acid and thus, this cycle is known as the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA).
